Biography

Dr. Abhinita Mohanty is an Assistant Professor in the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDEAS) at O. P. Jindal Global University. She has done her PhD from IIT, Madras, dept. Of Humanities and Social Sciences and has previously worked at Vijaybhoomi University as Assistant Professor. She is also trained in journalism but chose to pursue a career as an academic in development studies. She has published her work in Elsevier and Scopus journals and is interested in political ecology, environment, sustainability, indigenous knowledge systems and food sovereignty movements. Beyond academia, she enjoys writing creatively in various genres. 

Abhinita’s PhD explored the intersection of indigenous rights, sustainable food systems, and community resilience. Abhinita’s research critically examines how traditional knowledge systems and indigenous practices contribute to food sovereignty and ecological sustainability in the Global South. Her interdisciplinary approach blends theory with practice, encouraging students to engage with pressing issues such as environmental justice, gender, and governance of commons. She is keenly interested in integrating liberal education methodologies to foster critical thinking and participatory learning. She is passionate about holistic education and is open to mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, nurturing the next generation of scholars and changemakers committed to sustainability and social equity.
