Guest Lecture by Rosalia Ortega Pradillo on “IP in Sports”


On 17 November 2021, Rosalia delivered a guest lecture on “IP in Sports” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Rosalia is a Partner at Andersen Law Firm's Culture, Sports and Entertainment department in its Madrid office. The lecture discussed issues surrounding image rights of athletes, ambush marketing, and other significant intellectual property related issues in sport.

Guest Lecture by Jamie Singer on “Sponsorship in Sports - Legal and Regulatory Issues”


On 10 November 2021, Jamie Singer delivered a guest lecture on “Sponsorship in Sports – Legal and Regulatory Issues” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Jamie is the Partner at Onside Law (UK). The lecture focussed on the salient provisions in sport sponsorship agreements and discussed several case studies of legal issues that have arisen particularly in football.

Guest Lecture by Ms. Surbhi Kuwelkar on “Human Rights and Athletes”


On 28 October 2021, Surbhi Kuwelkar delivered a guest lecture on “Human Rights and Athletes” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Surbhi is the Legal Counsel at Ultimate Players Association of India and is currently a PhD candidate focusing on Human Rights aspects of Sport. The session included discussions on transgender rights in sport, procedural fairness in sporting disputes and human rights in major sporting events.

On 27 October 2021, Patrizia Diacci and Ricciardo Giacomin delivered a guest lecture on “Motor Sports” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Patrizia is an Associate at Bergs & More, and Ricciardo is the Founding Partner at Bergs & More.

On 21 October 2021, Andrea Bozza delivered a guest lecture on “The Athlete-Agent Relationship and Player Contracts” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Andrea is the Senior Counsel at Withersworldwide and also a visiting faculty of International Sports Law course at ISDE, Spain. The lecture discussed current legal issues and FIFA regulations around intermediaries and player agents in football.

On 20 October 2021, Giuseppe Sampina, Roxanne Anderson and Roshan Gopalakrishna delivered a guest lecture on “Media and Broadcasting” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Giuseppe is the Co-Founder and CEO of HiWay Media, Roxanne is a Partner at AZB & Partners and Roshan is a Partner at LawNK, a boutique sports law firm in India. The session discussed the importance of broadcasting and media in the context of the sports revenue model, salient provisions in broadcasting agreements, and current and developing issues in media and sports.

Guest Lecture by Robby Houben and Vincent Mannaert on “Football Law”


On 14 October 2021, Robby Houben and Vincent Mannaert delivered a guest lecture on “Football Law” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Robby is currently the Club Brugge Chair at the Faculty of Law at University of Antwerp. Vincent is the General Manager of Club Brugge K.V. in Belgium. The interactive session discussed current issues that exist in football and the law, include athlete/agent relationships, disciplinary procedures, transfer procedures and integrity issues.

Guest Lecture by Bjorn Hessert on “Regulation of Match-Fixing and Organized Crime in International Sport”


On 29 September 2021, Bjorn Hessert delivered a guest lecture on “Regulation of Match-Fixing and Organized Crime in International Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Bjorn is the Research Assistant at The University of Zurich and has an LL.M from The University of Melbourne. Bjorn discussed the regulatory landscape of match manipulation; various forms of sports competition manipulation; the investigatory measures against sports manipulation and sanctioning regime for it.

Guest Lecture by Anish Dayal and Parth Goswami on “Anti-Doping Law in Practice in India: Challenges and Opportunities”


On 23 September 2021, Anish Dayal and Parth Goswami delivered a guest lecture on “Anti-Doping Law in Practice in India: Challenges and Opportunities” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Anish is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and has decades of experience in litigation in India. He is experienced in the areas of Sports law including anti-doping. Parth is an Advocate and runs his own practice. He has been litigating and representing several athletes in India, particularly in the field of anti-doping.

Guest Lecture by Daniel Read and Alberto Yelmo on “Drugs in Sport - Promoting Clean Sport”


On 22 September 2021, Daniel Read and Alberto Yelmo delivered a guest lecture on “Drugs in Sport - Promoting Clean Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Daniel is a Lecturer at Loughborough University, London and is an expert in Doping in Sports. Alberto is an Associate at Diaz-Bastien and Asociados Abogados and is experienced in handling sports doping cases. The guest lecturers discussed key debates around the legitimacy of anti-doping institutions such as WADA and NADOs. Alberto also presented several anti-doping cases in order to discuss the various ways on how doping cases have been determined by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

On 16 September 2021, Mr. Diogo Guia gave a delivered lecture on “Integrity in Sports” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Mr. Diogo serves as the COO of ICSS (International Centre for Sports Security) INSIGHT, heads up ICSS’s initiatives in the fields of international cooperation, sports public policy, and EU affairs, including leading the ICSS delegation in Brussels.

On 18 August 2021, Dr. Joshua McLeod delivered a guest lecture on “Introduction to Sport Governance” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Dr. McLeod is a Lecturer in Sport Management at Deakin University and an expert in Sport Governance.

Guest Lecture by Namrata Chatterjee on "Disciplinary Action and Regulations in Sport"


On 12 August 2021, Namrata Chatterjee delivered a lecture on “Disciplinary Action and Regulations in Sport” ” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Namarata is the League Secretary of Indian Super League and has previously worked under the disciplinary department of AFC (Asian Football Confederation).

This class was on “Disciplinary Action and Regulations in Sport” and focused on the regulatory framework of sport, including the various types of sporting code of conduct violations and how they are dealt with by relevant disciplinary bodies.

On 11 August 2021, Dev Kumar Parmar and Pablo Mettroz delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Sports Law and its Regulatory Systems” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series at O.P. Jindal Global University. Dev is the principal and founding partner of Parmars, a boutique Sports Law Firm. The class was focused on the historic development of the term ‘Sport’, key principles and structures within of sports and dispute resolution and the evolution of sport law.

Guest Lecture by Dean Bastin, Sportradar, on “Corruption in Sport: Organised Crime and Match Fixing”


On 30 March 2021, Dean Bastian, Sportradar, delivered a lecture on “Corruption in Sport: Organised Crime and Match Fixing” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Mr Dean Bastin is the Global Manager, Intelligence and Investigation Services at Sportradar. In the lecture, he discussed how fraud and match manipulation take place in sport, and how it is detected and sanctioned.

Guest Lecture by Parth Goswami, Advocate, on “Anti-doping Law in Practice in India”


On 26 March 2021, Parth Goswami, delivered a lecture on “Anti-doping Law in Practice in India” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Parth Goswami is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and has vast experience representing athletes in anti-doping disputes. In the lecture, he has discussed the many different issues and challenges faced by Indian athletes in doping, including the number of athletes who are caught out without having intended to cheat. He discussed a number of recommended policy considerations to reform anti-doping within India.

Guest Lecture by Marissa Sunio, WADA, on “Drugs in Sport – Promoting Clean Sport”


On 23 March 2021, Marissa Sunio, delivered a lecture on “Drugs in Sport – Promoting Clean Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Ms Marissa Sunio is Senior Manager, Legal Affairs at the World Anti-Doping Agency. During the lecture, she has discussed the different challenges that exist within the promotion of clean sport and explained how WADA is coordinating and monitoring the fight against drugs in sports at world-wide. Marissa also explained a number of the key amendments under the 2021 WADA Code.

On 19 March 2021, Nitin Mittal and Chiranjeev Kothari, from Krida Legal delivered a lecture on “Gambling and Sports Betting” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Our guest speakers discussed the how gambling and betting are regulated across different states in India, and explained scope for policy reform in this space.

On 16 March 2021, Dr Michele Verroken delivered a lecture on “Integrity in Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Dr Michele Verroken, is the founding director of Sporting Integrity and the former Director of Ethics and Anti-Doping at UK Sport.

On 5 March 2021, Professor Simon Gardiner delivered a lecture on “Racism in Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Professor Gardiner examined the complex and topical issue of racism issues in sport and how the organizations are trying to tackle this significant challenge around the world.

Guest Lecture by Professor David McArdle on “Negligence and Concussion in Sport”


On 2 March 2021, Professor Dr David McArdle delivered a lecture on “Negligence and Concussion in Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Professor David McArdle is the Head of School at the University of Stirling, Scotland. During the lecture, he discussed the issue of sport-related concussion and personal injury law in the United Kingdom, and explained how this area of policy has evolved over time.

Guest Lecture by Dr. Joshua Mcleod on “An Introduction to Governance in Sport”


On 19 February 2021, Dr Joshua Mcleod delivered a lecture on “An Introduction to Governance in Sport” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Dr Mcleod is Lecturer in Sport Management from Deakin Business School. During the lecture, he has discussed different governance issues that exist in sporting federations, and highlighted the importance of good governance in sport (and explained what this concept actually means in practice). He provided a number of examples of governance challenges in an Indian context.

On 16 February 2021, Namrata Chatterjee delivered a lecture on “Disciplinary Action and Regulation in Sports” as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Namrata Chatterjee is Legal Secretary of Indian Super League. During the lecture she has discussed how Disciplinary Rules and Procedures are an important part of ensuring justice in disciplinary proceedings and to provide a framework within which decisions relating to the sporting body can be made in a fair, consistent, independent and expeditious manner and in accordance with the requirements of the game.

On 12 February 2021, Dev Kumar Parmar and Pablo Mettroz Holley delivered a lecture as part of the Centre for Sports Law, Business and Governance Lecture Series. Dev Kumar Parmar, the principal director at Parmar Sports, and Pablo Mettroz Holley, also from Parmar Sports, delivered a lecture on “Introduction to International Sports Law”. They discussed how modern Sports Law has developed, from the concept of Lex Sportiva or Lex Ludica. It was an interactive session where they shared their views about any modern-day international sports organizations and the structure of sports federations.

Keynote by Simon Taufel, Former Member ICC Elite Umpire Panel on “Integrity in Sports – Lessons from International Cricket”


On 1 April 2019, Simon Taufel, Former Member ICC Elite Umpire Panel and ICC Umpires Performance and Training Manager, presented a keynote on “Integrity in Sports – Lessons from International Cricket” at O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat. The lecture was well attended by faculty and students who had a keen interest in sport. Simon shared numerous experiences from his career as an International umpire, with the consistent message that integrity, leadership and values are an important part of life, not just on the sporting field.

Public Lecture by Melanie Jones, Former Australian Cricketer on “Women in Sports”


On 3 April 2018, Melanie Jones, former Australian cricketer and commentator for the Indian Premier League delivered a distinguished public lecture on “Women in Sports”. Melanie shared her experiences as cricketer in Australia and her perspectives on female participation in sport in a global context. Students and academics had the opportunity to discuss with her the challenges and opportunities for growth of female participation in sport in India, using Australian examples as a case study.

Launch of MOU with Delhi Daredevils in the field of Sports Law and Governance


On 3 April 2018, Delhi Daredevils (now known as the Delhi Capitals) signed an MoU with O.P. Jindal Global University at the Feroz Shah Kotla, to to extend support to OP Jindal Global University's Sports Law and Governance Programme.

Public Discussion with Cricketing Greats: A Conversion with Bishan Singh Bedi and Michael Kasprowicz


On 27 September 2017, two cricketing greats addressed students and faculty at O.P. Jindal Global University. With over 2,000 First Class wickets between the pair, Mr. Bishan Singh Bedi, Former Indian Test cricket captain, and Mr. Michael Kasprowicz, Former Australian Test cricketer, shared stories from their cricketing careers.
