PProfessor (Dr.) Iain Martin is Vice-Chancellor and President of Deakin University. He came to Deakin from the position of Vice-Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, United Kingdom. Prior to that, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Professor Martin spent a number of years at the University of Auckland, New Zealand with positions including Professor of Surgery, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Science, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for external and strategic partnerships. Professor Martin grew up in the United Kingdom and attended the University of Leeds where he completed his medical degree, Doctorate and Master of Education. Since January 2022, he has served as Chair of the Victorian Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, he is a member of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness Advisory Group and in May 2023 was appointed an inaugural Director of the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre Limited (VTAC Ltd) Board. In March 2023, Professor Martin was reappointed as Deakin’s Vice-Chancellor for a further five year term (from May 2024 until 2029) and continues to lead the implementation of the University’s strategic plan, Deakin 2030: Ideas to Impact.
