Professor (Dr.) Bárbara M. Orfanò completed her undergraduate degree in Letters in the year 2000 at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, and her doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics in 2010 at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, Ireland and was a visiting scholar at King’s College- London in 2021. She acted as Director of the Confucius Institute at UFMG and coordinated the Center for East Asian Studies from 2018-2021. Currently, she is UFMG’s Deputy Dean for International Affairs and teaches in the post-graduate programme on Linguistic Studies and coordinates the Languages for Academic Purposes Center. Her research interests are in the areas of Applied Corpus Linguistics, Learner Corpora, Oral and Written Academic Discourse, and Teaching and Learning Languages in the context of internationalization and International Education.
