Academic coordinator, Jean Monnet Chair

Prof. (Dr.) Indranath Gupta is a Professor at the Jindal Global Law School and Dean of Research, OPJGU. He is Co-Director of JIRICO and Senior Fellow at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS). Prof. Gupta was earlier appointed as the research collaborator by the Università Bocconi, Milan, Italy, for a project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme. He has taught at the Brunel Law School of Brunel University during this Ph.D. and has been involved in a funded project on informational privacy. Prof. Gupta has participated in a multi-jurisdictional project on Digital Era Competition: A BRICS View.  He is currently the Jean-Monnet Chair- Academic Coordinator for the project ‘Multi-dimensional Approaches to the Understanding of the E.U. Data Protection Framework.’ 

He is working on multiple externally funded projects, including a research project on cases of copyright infringement on online platforms with researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Intermediary Liability and Free Speech, National Digital Library of India Project with IIT Kharagpur and SEPs, and FRAND licensing in the ICT sector. He has also worked as an advocate at Calcutta High Court. Dr. Gupta has played a pivotal role in securing multiple external research grants for JGU. 

Prof. Gupta holds a Ph.D. from Brunel University, London, and two LL.M. degrees (taught and research) from the University of Aberdeen, UK, and the University of East Anglia, UK. His Ph.D. looked at the transnational influence of the US Supreme Court’s judgement in the Feist case in the framing of the Database Directive in the European Union. He specialises in Technology Law and aspects of Intellectual Property Law. Over the years, he has offered courses such as Information Technology Law, Music and Copyright, and EU law and Approaches to New Technology, Understanding the EU structure of Informational Privacy and Building a Global Consensus through EU GDPR: An Assessment of Data Privacy Legislation in Asia (India, China, Philippines and Thailand). He has been also invited as a Jean Monnet Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence, Jean Monnet Centre for Intellectual Property & Management, Bournemouth University, UK.

Professor (Dr.) Arpita Gupta is a Professor of Law at the Jindal Global Law School. Dr. Gupta earned her LL.M. and S.J.D from the University of Wisconsin Law School, US, where her doctoral work focused on the evolution of the institution of microfinance in India. In addition, she holds a B.A. (Hons) in History from the Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University, an LL.B. from Delhi University, and an LL.M. from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Lisbon.


At Jindal Global Law School, Dr. Gupta teaches Administrative Law, Tort Law and Advanced Tort Law. In the past, she has also taught courses on Comparative Constitutional Law and WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism. Her research interests include Law and Development, EU Law, Tort Law, Legal Profession, and Legal History. Her current work lies at the intersection of law, institutions, and development, with a two-fold emphasis on access to justice and access to finance.


Associate Dean of Research, JGU

Professor (Dr.) Chitresh Kumar is an Associate Professor at the Jindal Global Business School and Deputy Controller of Examinations, JGU. He is an alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur, and School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. Dr. Kumar has previously worked with MNCs like Deloitte, Lee Harris Pomery Architect PLLC etc. He has worked as a consultant for state and central government ministries in India and outside.

Dr. Kumar has experience working with Multi-Lateral Donor Agencies like DFID, World Bank, and Japan Bank for International Cooperation on projects like Smart Cities, Kolkata Metro, and high-speed rail design. He is currently collaborating with City University, London on Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), provided by Research England. His research interests are in the area of urban commuter and freight movement, city logistics, knowledge management, and corporate social responsibility.

Research Fellow Assistant lecturer, JGLS

Ms. Neha Singh is an Assistant Lecturer at the Jindal Global Law School and a Research Fellow at the Office of the Dean of Research, JGU .She graduated LLM with distinction from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2020. She completed her B.A.LLB in 2019 from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun. She was awarded the Harding International Legal Scholarship for her LLM. She is licensed to practice law by the Bar Council of India and qualified UGC-NET (law) in 2022. She is one of the Founding Partners of The IP Press- a legal website focused on intellectual property laws. Ms. Singh’s academic and research interests include public international law, criminal law, human rights law and intellectual property laws.

Isha Gaba

Deputy Manager, Office of Dean of Research, JGU



Isha Gaba is a Deputy Manager at Office of the Dean of Research, JGU. Isha holds a BBA from Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi and PGDBM from ICFAI, Hyderabad. She is a certified Spanish language expert from Instituto Cervantes (Embassy of Spain),New Delhi. She has previously worked with Embassies (Embassy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and Embassy of the Republic of El Salvador) and MNCs. At Office of the Dean of Research , Isha provides administrative support and is the Administrative Secretary of the University's Research Grants Committee.

Prof. (Dr.) Anirban Ganguly is currently a Professor in Operations & Supply Chain Management and Vice Dean, Internationalization, at Jindal Global Business School at O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University). Dr. Ganguly holds BSc and MBA degrees from the University of Calcutta, and also MS and PhD from Stevens Institute of Technology, USA. Prior to joining Jindal Global Business School, he has held faculty positions at Hofstra University, City University of New York and Stevens Institute of Technology. He has several years of academic experience, both in the domain of teaching and research. Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Jha is Professor & Dean (Research) at Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA). Dr. Pankaj Jha was Director (Research) with Indian Council of World Affairs for more than two and half years. He had worked as Deputy Director with National Security Council Secretariat (2012-2013) and was closely associated with national security apparatus in India. He has been a member of high-level delegations to the UK, Israel and other countries. He has been the visiting fellow with Centre for International Security Studies, Sydney University (2009) and Institute for South Asian Studies, Singapore (2006).He is also Director of Centre for Security Studies(CSS) and Honorary Director of CeSCUBE , a research oriented think tank .He is also Editor in Chief of JSIA Journal which is published biannually.

Prof. (Dr.) Sriroop is a Professor of environmental studies and geospatial modeling at the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities. He is also the co-Director to the Center for Environment, Sustainability and Human Development (CESH). Sriroop specializes on issues of water depletion/degradation and how in the wake of climate change natural resources scarcity may affect sustainable human development. Sriroop has over 12 years of teaching/research experience in different universities of India and US. He has over 20 publications in high impact factor journals. He has published extensively with leading dailies such as Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times, Statesman, Telegraph, Millennium Post, Wire etc. Sriroop teaches courses on food, water, climate, statistics and Geographic Information System (GIS).

Dr. Amlan Das Gupta is a Development Economist who has been engaged in teaching and research since 2015. He holds a master degree in Quantitative Economics from Indian Statistical Institute Delhi and completed his PhD. in Economics from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada in 2014. Since then he has taught at various institutions which include Indian Statistical Institute Delhi, Drake University, Des Moines, USA and Institute of Financial Management and Research in India. Amlan’s research interests lie in the fields of Development and Environmental Economics. His work uses quantitative methods and econometric models to answer questions about economic behaviour and policy in the developing world.

Girish “the Mountain” Agrawal Works on the interrelated questions of law and policy as they pertain to infrastructure development in India. He is especially interested in how roadway design and urban layout influences driver behavior (and so road safety); what is the impact on natural systems because of a rapid expansion of the built environment; how do urban heat island effects work; and how to manage natural disaster and recovery. Girish holds a B. Tech. (Hons) in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi, an MS and a PhD, both in Geotechnical Engineering, from Purdue University. He also holds a Juris Doctor from the UC Berkeley School of Law. He is thus a licensed Civil Engineer, a licensed Geotechnical Engineer, and a licensed Attorney at Law! He has about 20 years of professional experience as a consulting engineer, mostly in California, working with architects and planners on a wide range of public and private infrastructure. He has been a member of the faculty at Purdue University and IIT Delhi.

Dr. Vivek is a trained medical doctor with a master’s in Health Policy, Planning, and Financing from the LSE and the LSHTM; and a doctorate in Public Health (Political-Economy) from the University of Oxford. In addition, he holds a Diploma in Business Management from the ICFAI University.Prior to joining JSGP he worked as an associate professor at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). Earlier to this he worked as a researcher at the Department of Social Policy, LSE and as coordinator of International Long-term care Policy Network (ILPN) based in London. In addition, he has more than a decade long grassroots experience in Development Management.

Prof. Kishalay Bhattacharjee is a senior journalist who has reported widely from India’s conflict zones for over two decades. He books include Che in Paona Bazaar: Tales of Exile and Belonging from India’s Northeast (Pan Macmillan India, 2013), Blood on My Hands: Confessions of Staged Encounters (Harper Collins India, 2015) and most recently An Unfinished Revolution: A Hostage Crisis, Adivasi Resistance and the Naxal Movement (Pan Macmillan India, 2017). He was the first and only recipient of the Penguin Randomshouse Writers Residency Award (2016). He has received several awards including the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award (2006-7) for his coverage of internally displaced people. His coverage of the abduction and rescue of two Italian tourists was nominated for the best current affairs programme by Association of International Broadcasting (AIB) Awards in 2013. He has made many television documentaries, one of which, Santi, Lucy and Thoibi, was screened at international festivals in Goa and Barcelona.

Prof. (Dr.) Corendea is credited for his seminal book called Legal Protection of the Sinking Islands Refugees (2016), and for initiating and developing the ‘International Hybrid Law’ concept (2007), which synergizes human rights, environmental and refugee/migration law in international climate law.


Prior to this, Prof. Corendea worked at the United Nations University in Germany and he has also served as Lecturer at University of Bonn in Germany. As an AXA Postdoc Fellow, his research focused on implementation of international law in traditional legal systems in Asia and the Pacific. He currently also acts as a Senior Legal Research Fellow with the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) in Canada, and Lecturer for University for Peace (UPEACE) in Costa Rica.

Dr. Kanika Malik is a clinical psychologist and a mental health researcher. She has completed her supervised clinical training at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (M.Phil Clinical Psychology, 2009-2011), Delhi, followed by doctoral clinical work and research training at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS, 2012-2016), Bangalore. She has been working in the field of mental health for the last 10 years. Dr. Malik has worked with tertiary care psychiatric hospitals (NIMHANS, IHBAS), private clinics (Saksham), and not-for-profits (Sangath) organizations.
