Inside JGU 2019 - Issue 11 (November)

JGU faculty and staff addressed over 9,000 high school students in the cities of Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru over 8 days as part of the University’s admissions outreach efforts for 2020.

 

The Admissions Office has led this effort along with many faculty members including Deans across all the schools of JGU. They have been travelling across the country and beyond to engage and interact with students.

 

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU and Professor Tom Goldstein, Dean, Jindal School of Journalism & Communication (JSJC) undertook a 4-day visit to Chennai and Kolkata along with a team of staff from the JGLS Admissions office. The team addressed over 5,500 students in 21 Schools in Chennai and Kolkata. The main theme of the talks delivered across these schools was: “Changing the World Through Law and Journalism”. The talks across both the cities were coordinated by the joint efforts of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) and the JGLS Admissions office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On 31st October and 1st November, they spoke at 10 leading schools in Chennai. The schools were: Chinmaya Vidyalaya, The Hindu Senior Secondary School, Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan School (PSBB) Anna Nagar, Bhavan’s Rajaji School Kilpauk, SBOA Senior Secondary School, Lalaji Memorial Omega International School, Schram Academy, CPS Global School, PSBB Nungambakkam, Chettinad Vidyashram and the CSI Jessie Moses School.

 

 

The Law school outreach team organised an Open House event for parents and students where 90 parents and students were given detailed guidance during a Q&A session with Professor Kumar and Professor Goldstein. Students from three leading law test preparation institutes in the city namely Sriram Law Academy, Career Launcher and Co-Draft Academy attended this interactive session with their parents.

 

Later, the Outreach team addressed the media at a Press Conference with over 40 journalists from Chennai print and electronic media, which was organised by the JGU Communications team.

During their visit to Kolkata on 6th and 7th November, Professor Kumar and Professor Goldstein addressed various schools on the theme “Law and Journalism” with sufficient emphasis on other programmes offered by JGU. In all the talks in Chennai and Kolkata, they also emphasised the availability of all other UG programmes across all the schools of JGU.

 

The leading schools of the city addressed in these two days included: Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, La Martiniere for Boys, South Point, Don Bosco School, South City International, Newtown International, Apeejay School, DPS Mega city, Carmel High School and Bhawanipore Education Society College.

 

In Kolkata, the Outreach team also attended a Press Meet with over 25 journalists from the city from leading news and media organisations. The most important part of this trip was the very successful Alumni and Friends of JGU Meet on 6th and electing the Kolkata Chapter of JGU Alumni.

In the second phase, the Outreach team visited the Presidency School in Bengaluru and had an interactive session with the students. The Outreach team hosted an Open House for students who may be interested to pursue higher studies at JGU.

 

Professor Kumar; Professor R. Sudarshan, Dean, Jindal School of Government & Public Policy; and Professor Ashish Bhardwaj, Dean, Jindal School of Banking & Finance undertook a 4-day visit to the cities of Mumbai and Bengaluru along with a team of admissions staff from the JGLS Admissions Office led by Professor Anand Prakash Mishra, Director, JGU Law School Admissions and supported by Mr. Deepu Krishna, Deputy Director, JGU Law School Admissions and Mr. Debjyoti Bhattacharya, Senior Manager, JGU Law School Admissions.

 

 

The Outreach team addressed over 3,500 students and parents in these two cities in 4 days. The main theme of the talks that team gave across these schools were: “Global Careers in Law, Policy, Economics & Commerce”. The talks across both the cities were coordinated by the joint efforts of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) and the JGLS Admissions Office.

 

 

On 13th & 14th November in Mumbai, the Outreach team spoke at 5 leading schools of the city. The schools in Mumbai were: Jamnabai Narsee School, JBCN School Borivali, JBCN School Oshiwara, Universal School Ghatkopar and Panbai International School.

 

This visit also witnessed JGU receiving the Quimpro Awards 2019 for contributing to Quality Improvement in Higher Education. Quimpro stands for Quality Improvement and Quimpro Foundation awards are 30 years old and are given in the fields of Business, Healthcare, Education and Environment.

 

Professor Kumar thanked Mr. Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor, JGU for his philanthropic contribution and dedicated the award to the students, faculty and staff of JGU.

During the trip to Bangalore on 25th and 26th November, Professor Kumar, Professor Sudarshan and Professor Bhardwaj addressed schools in the city on the theme, “Law, Policy, Economics & Commerce” with sufficient emphasis on all other UG programmes offered by JGU. Over 2,000 students from seven leading schools and two colleges of the city were addressed along with their parents. In addition, there was an open house event, a Press Meet and a Dinner interaction with over 40 distinguished parents and friends and supporters of JGU in the city. In all the talks in schools in Mumbai and Bengaluru, the Outreach team also emphasised the availability of all other UG programmes across all the schools of JGU.

 

The schools addressed during these two days included: DPS East, Legacy School, Inventure Academy, Creative School, National Hill View Public School, National Academy for Learning (NAFL) and the Presidency School.

 

The Outreach team also addressed over 500 students in two leading degree colleges in Bangalore named IFIM Çollege and Law School, and CMS, Jain University on the theme ‘Changing the World through Law & Public Policy’. This was specifically for promoting the postgraduate programmes of JGU among the students of degree colleges in the city.

 

The Law School outreach team organised an Open House event for parents and students at the Bangalore International Centre Auditorium where over 300 parents and students were given detailed guidance in addition to pose question in a Q&A session with Professor Kumar, and Professor Sudarshan and Professor Bhardwaj. Students from the three leading law test preparation institutes in the city namely Career Launcher, Paradygm Law and CLAT Tutor attended this interactive session with their parents.

 

The team also attendede a Press Conference over 30 journalists from Bangalore print and electronic media, which was well organised by the JGU Communications team.
