Main Stories: JIBS organises multiple academic, training and capacity building programmes
1. 10thInternational Forum on Crime and Criminal Law in the Global Era
Dr. Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director, Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences and Poulomi Bhadra, Assistant Director, Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences attended the 10th International Forum on ‘Crime and Criminal Law in the Global Era’ held at China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing, from 30 November – 1st December, 2019.
Dr. Sahni and Prof. Bhadra were part of the Indian delegation that spoke on the state of financial crimes in India and the efficacy of the legislative and policy reforms required to address this increasing problem in India.
The Forum held on the theme of Economic and Cyber Crimes in the 21st Century was attended by delegations from 11 countries. Attendees also witnessed the release of the two publications, titled ‘Crime and Criminal Law Perspectives on Global Migration’ and ‘Refugee Jurisprudence and Criminal Justice’, edited by Dr. Sahni and Prof. Bhadra and presented in honour of the Forum’s founder and renowned criminal jurist, Late Dr. Bingsong He.
2. 4-Day Programme on Leadership and Motivation for the Officers of the Government of Haryana
A 4-day certificate programme on ‘Team Building, Communication Skills, Leadership and Motivation’ for the Officers of the Government of Haryana was organised by Jindal Institute of Leadership Development and Executive Education (JILDEE) under the aegis of JIBS. The event was held from December 3-6 at JGU.
The certificate course was intended to help the participants in making better decisions in the workplace and also make them understand the organisational interventions on the basis of the assessment results to optimise growth.
Fourteen officers from the state participated in the event.
Lt. Col. Rajat Mathur, Joint Director, JILDEE presented the closing remarks and the valedictory address was delivered by Mr. Pankaj Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Rohtak Division.

3. Kolkata: Interactive session on ‘Unleashing your Child’s Potential for Holistic Growth’ with Parents
On December 7, JIBS organised an interactive session in Kolkata for parents to raise awareness on the holistic development of children.
The session facilitated by Dr. Sahni was attended by more than 1,500 parents of Class 8th to 12th students as well as educationists.
The workshop’s purpose was to identify the communication roadblocks and develop effective communication skills through an interactive session and related activities.
Dr Sahni said that understanding the psychology of a child and his or her development was extremely important for one’s growth, both physical and mental.
“Parents need to be more aware and equipped to understand the upheavals in their child’s moods and respond accordingly. It is up to us, as parents, teachers and counsellors to train their minds. A holistic development can help children acquire skills more effectively and rapidly, which is essential to successfully survive and thrive in today’s day and age,” he told the audience.
In all, 30 top schools from Kolkata, including Don Bosco School Liluah, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, South City International School, LLR Public School, Jewish Girls School, Ling Liang School, Birla High School and La Martenelle School participated in this event.
JIBS has so far conducted over 30,000 counselling and training sessions in nearly 3,000 schools for educators and students and short-term courses on stress and anger management, ADHD, learning disability, troubled teens, psychological counselling skills, and effective communication between parents and children.
4. Management Consulting Fundamentals
With an aim to hone students’ ability to respond to business problems and propose creative and effective solutions, JIBS organised a five-day workshop on Management Consulting Fundamentals at JGU. The workshop was held from Dec 9-13, 2019 and was attended by 23 students.
Dr. Sahni, presented an interactive session on ‘Vision Mission Development’ which was preceded by an introductory session on ‘Management Consulting Fundamentals’ by Dr. Tithi Bhatnagar, Assistant Professor & Joint Director, JIBS.
The workshop aimed at educating participants about the basic consultancy concepts and their application in business, to learn to understand the client requirements and the ways to conduct a ‘Need and Diagnostic Analysis’ for a given business problem.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti, Dean, Jindal Global Business. The 5-day workshop ended with a Valedictory Session chaired by Mr. Jitu Mishra, Senior Director, HR and Chief Operating Officer, JGU and distribution of certificates to the participants.
5. Regional Consultation on ‘The Future of Organized Crime” – Bangkok
Global Initiative (GI) Against Transnational Organised Crime invited Dr. Sahni, to attend the Regional Consultation Meeting on ‘The Future of Organized Crime” at Bangkok on 13th December 2019.
The Consultation was one in a series of thematic and regional consultations with GI network members to explore current global trends on organized crime. These consultations will help in the drafting process of a report on global organized crime trends that Global Initiative hopes will contribute towards ongoing crime discussions at UN- including for the 2020 Crime Congress.
The main focus of this Regional Consultation was the overall framework on Population, Migration, Resilience, Climate and the Environment. Dr. Sahni shared his perspective on the issue from India’s point of view.
6. 5 Days Certificate Programme on “HR Audit and Analytics with special focus on Competency Mapping” for officers of Coal India Limited
With an objective of providing deeper understanding into the managerial concept & techniques of HR audit & analytics for formulating and implementing strategies in human resource department for the organisation, a 5-day certificate programme on “HR Audit and Analytics with special focus on Competency Mapping” for the officers of Coal India Limited was organized by JILDEE under the aegis of JIBS. The event was held from December 16- 20 at Ranchi.
The HR function acts as the backbone of the organisation and thus it becomes very important that the concerned managers should understand the importance of Human Resource functions to align it with the organisation goals. This is to facilitate Human Resources to further upgrade and contribute significantly towards organisation development. Keeping this in mind, this programme intended to help build a strong understanding of HR managers towards their strategic roles and also develop them as HRD managers with functional merits.
A special lecture on Competency Assessment and Framework was presented by Dr. Sahni.
7. Effective Teaching Skills for Teachers from the Sultanate of Oman
In a bid to equip teachers with effective and innovative teaching methodologies and to empower them with techniques and tools to enhance and encourage active involvement of students in the learning processes, JIBS organised a four-day Effective Teaching Skills Training Programme for educators from the Sultanate of Oman from December 20-23.
JIBS has been conducting such programmes for schools, teachers, principals, students and parents for the purpose of performance enhancement, excellence in life, and stress management of all the stakeholders involved in educational system. These programmes also aim at techniques of dissemination of knowledge in an easy language to the student community so as to enhance their functioning and workload management.
Prof. Arjya B. Majumdar, Director, Admissions and Outreach, JGU inaugurated the programme which was attended by 25 educators.
During the workshop JIBS faculty members – Dr. Tanushree Sharma, Associate Professor & Senior Fellow, Dr. Mohita Junnarkar, Assistant Professor & Deputy Director and Dr. Pulkit Khanna, Assistant Professor & Assistant Director delivered lectures focusing on critical educational aspects like ‘Best Teaching Practices,’ ‘Multiple Intelligence’ and Developing Leadership Skills.
Two JIBS fellows, Sweta Lakhani and Tanni Chaudary, also delivered lectures on ‘Gender Sensitization’ and ‘Conflict Management in Relationships’ respectively.
