Biography

Dr. Vikash R. Keshri is a medical doctor and a public health researcher, practitioner and academic with over 15 years of experience in health systems research, policy analysis, and public health practice. He has an MBBS and MD in Community Medicine and a PhD in Global Public Health from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, where he was awarded the Dean’s Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis. He also completed advanced training in health policy analysis at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium, and was an inaugural Keystone Fellow in Health Policy and Systems Research. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in maternal and child health. Dr. Keshri is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the School of Population Health, UNSW, Sydney. 


Dr. Keshri’s work focuses on strengthening public health systems in low-resource settings, with research interests spanning health policy and systems research (HPSR), governance and policy analysis, human resources for health, health systems performance, maternal health and burn injuries. He has led several pioneering research projects on health systems strengthening, primary healthcare, maternal health, and burn care in India, including the first-ever quality assurance of emergency obstetric care training and burns registry initiative as part of the National Programmes. 


Previously, Dr. Keshri was Executive Director of the State Health Resource Centre in Chhattisgarh, a state-level health policy think tank. Dr. Keshri has worked extensively with governments, development partners, and frontline health workers to design, implement, and evaluate health sector initiatives and reforms. He also led the development of Health and Nutrition Indicators for Chhattisgarh Vision @2047 for Viksit Bharat. In earlier roles, he worked as a senior research fellow with the George Institute for Global Health, India Office, as Subject Expert for HPSR at Asian Development Research Institute and as Maternal Health Lead at State Resource Unit in Bihar, among others. 


Dr. Keshri’s research has been widely published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as The Lancet, The Lancet Public Health, Health Policy and Planning, BMJ Global Health, Human Resources for Health, and Burns. At JSPH, he is committed to interdisciplinary teaching, policy-relevant research, and mentoring the next generation of public health leaders.
