The Master of Public Health (MPH) is one-year programme combining core courses, electives and an internship, and either a dissertation, a capstone project or a community service learning project. Our curriculum adheres to the competency frame of CEPH and is guided by the human development approach. Core courses provide foundational knowledge about population health and training in the qualitative and quantitative methods of public health. The electives allow students to explore innovations, develop specializations, and identify inter‑sectoral linkages. The programme employs diverse teaching methods, including classroom lectures, simulations, guided intervision, problem‑based learning (PBL), media and film analysis, community service learning (CSL), and field excursions.

My experience at JGU has been transformative. During my MPH programme at JSPH, I interned with organizations like Ibtada, where I assessed Sexual and Reproductive Health awareness among village women, and SPECTRA, where I evaluated livelihood project impacts. At Krsh Welfare Foundation, I created mental health awareness materials. These experiences deepened my understanding of health and development challenges. I am now working as a Research Assistant at AIIMS Rajkot, focusing on maternal health.
I interned with NACO under the Ministry of Health, analyzing factors linked to unsuppressed viral loads among pregnant women with HIV in Andhra Pradesh. I examined socio-economic factors, healthcare access, and treatment adherence to identify care gaps. I also participated in initiatives like SAMPARK 2.0, ART center visits, and training on integrated HIV and NCD services, gaining valuable insights into holistic HIV care.
I interned with Child Rights and You (CRY), researching child and maternal health indicators in South Indian states and conducting cyber safety training for students. At the Pratichi Institute, part of the Pratichi Trust founded by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, I worked on the PM POSHAN scheme in West Bengal, promoting school nutrition gardens and analyzing surveys on their benefits and women's political participation.
My first-year MPH training at JSPH prepared me for challenging professional assignments. During my internship at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), I conducted literature reviews on health programs and climate-smart agriculture, gaining insights into evidence- based research and its role in policymaking. I also participated in the SDG Young Influencer Programme, which highlighted youth contributions to policy discussions, enhancing my understanding of public policy and research.
My internship at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was a pivotal learning experience, offering insights into global humanitarian efforts and public health. I worked with the MRIS, Advocacy, and DEI committees, contributing to reports, a paper on caste, and initiatives for organizational change. Mentored by field veterans, I honed my skills in research, focus group discussions, and stakeholder mapping, gaining invaluable expertise in public health communication and humanitarian work.
