Biography

Mimi Roy is Professor and Associate Dean of International Collaborations at the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities. She holds a PhD from West Virginia University, USA in Environmental Sciences. Dr. Roy did her undergraduate and Masters in Geology and Environmental Sciences from India and the US respectively. She has also worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Texas A&M University and Auburn University in the US. She has spent more than a decade in the US working on several federal funded projects including USEPA, NIH, West Virginia Coal Mining Association, and several seed grants. She has served as the co-PI in several of these research projects. Her research in the US dealt with issues of selenium and heavy metal mobility from the coal mines, human health implications from heavy metal mobility, impact of arsenic on human health, sustainable agriculture, and agroforestry. Dr. Roy has received several prestigious awards based on her research on selenium mobility in West Virginia coal mines.

She currently teaches courses on environment and sustainable development including food and water security, environmental management and green business, climate action and the SDGs, senior capstone thesis among others. Her current research focusses on sustainable agricultural practices including water and soil conservation, human health risk assessments from environmental contamination, changing role of women in agriculture in the face of climate change, climate mitigation, and disaster vulnerability. She has published widely in high impact research journals over the years and has a high citation index. She is also a regular writer for the popular press covering wide range of issues on environmental sustainability.

As the Associate Dean for International Collaborations, Dr. Roy regularly engages with JSLH faculty and students for mobility programs at international partner Universities.

Besides teaching and research, Dr. Roy also serves as the Chairperson for the Committee on Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment at the O.P.
