Prof. (Dr.) Galina Galina Rousseva-Sokolova graduated Indian studies at Sofia University in Sofia, Bulgaria and earned her PhD at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris. Since 1993 she has been teaching at Sofia University and, between 1998 and 2000 at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She has taught as visiting lecturer at the University of Copenhagen, the University of Southern Denmark, Aarhus University, Banaras Hindu University, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius and others. Her fields of expertise include North Indian vernacular literature, Hindi grammar, Indian religions, history and methodology of religious studies and the cultural history of India and Europe. Her major publications are in the field of pre-modern Hindi literature and she has published numerous translations in Bulgarian, French and English of Medieval Indian poets such as Surdas, Kabir, Nandadas, Malik Muhammad “Jayasi” and others. She has convened and organized two editions of the international Braj Bhasha workshop in Bansko, Bulgaria.
