Prof. Deepanshu Mohan is Professor of Economics, and Director, Centre for New Economics Studies at Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities, O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University).
He is a Visiting Professor to the School of International Development and Global Studies, Faculty of Social Science, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada, and a Visiting Professor to the Department of Economics at Carleton University, Canada, where he teaches courses in areas of Comparative Economic History, Political Economy of Development, and Development Economics: Perspectives from India and China, over the summer term.
He has previously held Visiting Scholar and Academic positions for teaching and research at: Stellenbosch University’s School of Public Leadership (South Africa); FGV (Rio, Brazil); Paragon University (Phnom Penh, Cambodia), and in academic institutions of US, Israel, Colombia, Australia, to name a few.
Prof. Mohan completed his BA. In Economics from Fergusson College, Pune and then pursued an MSc. In Economic History from the London School of Economics. His research work intersects areas of economic anthropology, law and economics, political economy and development economics. He is the author of Strongmen Saviours: A Political Economy of Populism in India, Turkey, Russia and Brazil.
His academic work has been published in international journals like Asian Ethnicity (Routledge), Cities, Asian Journal of Social Sciences (NUS), Asian Journal of Public Affairs (NUS), and with publishers: Oxford University Press (UK), Routledge (London, NY), Springer Nature, Palgrave MacMillan, to mention a few.
He is a regular contributor for editorial platforms like: Mint, Scroll, BloombergQuint, The Wire, Deccan Herald, Fortune (India), The Print, The Hindu (Business Line), India Today’s Mail Today, and East Asia Forum (ANU).
