Guest Lecture on Performing God in Changing Times
Context-specific autoethnography of a Ramayana-based performance
This class on living traditions will explore the evolving nature of a Ramayana-based performance tradition narrative through an autoethnographic lens, examining how notions of divinity, storytelling, and cultural practice shift over time. By situating the performance within its specific socio-historic and regional context, this lecture will highlight the interplay between tradition and change, personal experience, and collective memory.
Through embodied research and self-reflexive narration, Prof. Sarkar Munsi will shed light on the ways performers, audiences, and communities engage with sacred narratives in contemporary times.
