A special workshop on Bunraku Puppetry, led by Mohd. Shameem, a master puppeteer and puppet designer who has agreed to share his time and presence with us. 
This workshop is part of our co-taught cross-elective with Prof @Poulomi Das and I titled “Living Traditions: Body, Performance, Memory, and Technology”, and offers a rare opportunity to engage with the fascinating Japanese tradition of Bunraku puppetry.

About the Workshop
Bunraku, a traditional form of Japanese puppetry, brings folklore to life through intricate storytelling and movement. In this hands-on session, Mohd. Shameem will guide participants in crafting their own puppets using simple materials like newspapers and cellotape—an experience blending creativity, storytelling, and performance.

About the Facilitator
Mohd. Shameem is a renowned puppeteer, designer, and theatre artist with years of experience in reviving and innovating traditional puppetry forms. His expertise spans multiple styles, integrating folk techniques with contemporary storytelling. He has conducted workshops across India and internationally, sharing his deep knowledge of puppetry’s history and evolving practices.
This interactive session is open to all students and faculty members interested in performance, storytelling, and traditional arts.
