Prof (Dr.) Priya Kanungo has an MA, MPhil, and PhD from the University of Delhi. She has been awarded the National Talent Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and has been Advisor DD Bharati, a television channel dedicated to art and culture.

She has taught courses in Indian music at Yale University (2010), Ashoka University (2014), and IIIT Delhi (2016). Since 2017, she is teaching music and writing in the Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities (JSLH). A vocalist by training, Priya has been a disciple of Pundits Amarnath, Deepak Chatterjee, and Rajan-Sajan Misra.

Currently she is under the guidance of Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas. Priya sings khayal, thumris, bhakti/devotional, ghazals, and film songs. She is happy to experiment with different genres of music, and to collaborate with artistes from varied fields. She is also an empanelled artist of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Apart from pursuing music, Priya has a degree in Commerce from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, and has worked as a journalist with The Financial Express, The Economic Times, Business Standard and Hindustan Times.
