Payal Arya graduated with a BA degree in Psychology and Sociology from Bombay University, 2014, BFA from Rachana Sansad, Bombay, 2013, MFA degree from Shiv Nadar University, Delhi, 2016. She makes immersive installations and films that explore the concept of non linear time, notions of distance, position and bodily tolerance, to rethink what it means to have agency. She has exhibited at various spaces like Kala Ghoda Festival, Art Loft, Bajaj Bhavan – Mumbai, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Kalakar Theater – Delhi, TIFA working studios – Pune, Pepper House – Kochi, Experimenter Viewing room – Bangalore, New Media Art Space – New York and FilmAkademie Baden Wurttemberg – Germany where she was invited to be a part of the film program there.
She has been a part of art residencies at LAMO (Ladakh Arts and Media Organization), ‘Shifting Studios’, residency at TIFA working studios and ‘Vacant Zone’ an online artist residency.
