Dr. Subhra Bhattacharya is an applied economic theorist with a keen interest in economic policymaking. He completed his PhD in economics from Iowa State University, USA and before that, MA and MPhil in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Subhra brings a diverse teaching experience both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to JSLH. He has designed and taught courses on microeconomics, game theory, public economics and general equilibrium theory. Before joining JSLH at O. P. Jindal Global University, he taught at Shiv Nadar University and Teri School of Advanced Studies.

His research interests are in the fields of Public Economics and Public Policy, Economics of the environment and Mathematical finance. His research work in public economics is focused on the areas of static and dynamic private provision of public goods, charitable giving under individual and social behavioural patterns and optimal income taxation. In environment economics, his work is mainly focused on international pollution control and mitigating climate change through designing policies and incentive schemes in a dynamic framework. He is also working on designing an optimal dynamic reservation policy. In a nutshell, his research is aimed to provide an analytical foundation to policy prescriptions where the focus is on a ubiquitous public economics issue- the inefficient allocation of scarce resources due to self-optimizing behaviour of strategic individuals and how to design public policies that incorporate individual behaviours and implement second-best through market outcomes. His work has been published in the Journal of Public Economic Theory and Indian Economic Review, and he has been awarded a research grant from Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). He also has an honorary research affiliation with the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH), New Delhi as an associate researcher.
