Dr. Lina Sonne is an Innovation Economist with over 15 years of experience in practice and policy-oriented research on 1) inclusive innovation and social entrepreneurship; 2) technology and gender, digitisation and society; 3) entrepreneurship in arts & culture.
Prior to joining JGU, she set up and ran Inblick Innovation Advisory in Mumbai, and built a research and consulting portfolio on innovation and entrepreneurship for social impact at Okapi Research & Advisory, Mumbai. Before that, she co-led research at Intellecap, Mumbai; and was Assistant Professor at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, where she was part of the team setting up an MA Development. Prior to moving to India, she was a researcher on innovation and technology policy with UNU-MERIT, the Netherlands.
Dr. Sonne has undertaken cross-sectoral projects in multiple South Asian countries and has worked with partners ranging from academic institutions to multilateral agencies, impact investors and incubators, the public sector, corporates, social enterprises and non-profit organisations. She regularly participates in workshops, speaks at conferences, sits on investment panels and mentors private and social sector entrepreneurs.
Dr. Sonne holds a PhD in Economics and Policy of Technical Change from UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University, an MSc in Business Economics from City, University of London, and a PG Diploma in Modern & Contemporary Indian Art History and Curatorial Studies from Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai.
