Dr. Yoshiko Lily Ishioka is a psychologist with an interest in developmental changes in cognition and emotion across the lifespan. She has been involved in research on how humans change with age in terms of physical, social, and psychological aspects. In particular, she is interested in the life course approach to aging. Through interviews and surveys, she has collected quantitative and qualitative data on past experiences in the lives of older adults, including education, work experiences, housework experiences, and leisure activities. Using these data, she has examined how individual differences in cognitive abilities occur in later life.
In addition to research on aging, she has been working on projects to solve social issues in cooperation with students in various fields, companies, and local communities. She believes that for the sustainable development of society, it is important to act globally and seek solutions within an interdisciplinary framework.
