Centre for Social Theory and Political Research (CSTPR)

Objectives:

The Centre for Social and Political Research (CSPR) aims to support interdisciplinary research on pressing socio-political concerns of our times. The idea behind setting up CSPR was to go beyond the disciplinary silos in which social science and humanities research is often conducted. Some of the themes that faculty and students pursue individual and collaborative research are nationalism, democracy, identity, citizenship, and violence. We approach these topics in a way that brings together perspectives from political science, sociology/anthropology, philosophy, and history. CSPR regularly organizes seminars, conferences, and discussion groups, where we invite scholars from different disciplines and at different career stages. These events give members of the JGU community an opportunity to engage with ideas and themes across schools. The center also encourages student-led events and faculty mentorship of student-led initiatives in research and writing.
