This paper argues against this\u00a0 framing to argue that the Taliban exercises control over Afghanistan\u2019s diverse population\u00a0 through differentiated forms of control, surveillance, and violence across intersecting axes of\u00a0 ethnicity, gender, religion, and linguistic identity selectively.
