International Collaborations
O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University) has an international orientation, it has one of the highest percentages of international faculty, and a significant proportion of faculty have international postgraduate qualifications. As a QS-ranked university granted Institution of Eminence status, international teaching and research is a priority for JGU and JSAA. Intensive study through travel to other locations has always been an important part of design and architectural education, and our programmes are designed to enhance understanding of the wider contexts of design processes.
As with other top architecture programmes, the international linkages created through JSAA come in different formats and are customized and differentiated for a range of scales of student learning experiences. JSAA has an increasing number of international opportunities available to JSAA students each year.
Short-Term Study Trips
These diverse international trips, of 1-3 weeks’ duration, which are normally offered in the term breaks between semester teaching, and are organized for different cities each year. JSAA students in all degree programs can in principle participate in our short-term study abroad programs. Participation in short-term study trips is selective and competitive, and will involve advanced preparation work with the JSAA faculty and the JGU International Office for students selected internally for exchanges. For each student, there is an internal application process, and selected students who travel will be expected to develop an independent investigative design or research project as the core of the organized intensive study trips.
We have organized short-term study abroad programmes for JSAA students with JSAA faculty to commence in 2021-2022+ in London, Chicago, and Istanbul for current future student. These intensive study trips include customized independent and group learning organized throughout the city, drawing upon our international faculty’s expertise and rich diversity of resources and experiences there.
Semester Exchanges
The Council of Architecture has only in July 2020 allowed for possible semester exchanges for Bachelor of Architecture students, so the curricular details of this new opportunity are still under development. Students in the B.A. and B.Des. programmes will normally have semester exchange opportunities after the shared first year. JSAA students in all degree programmes can in principle participate in our short-term study abroad programmes. Participation in short-term study trips is selective and competitive, and will involve advanced preparation work with the JSAA faculty and the JGU International Office for students selected internally for exchanges. External partners will have other participation requirements for semester exchanges. The current architecture programs with universities we are negotiating MoUs with the University of Nevada, the University of Malaya and Istanbul Technical University.
Postgraduate Entry
The architecture programmes at the following universities are interested to evaluate and select students from JSAA for their Master of Architecture (or equivalent degree) programmes after completion of the JSAA Bachelors plus other university entry requirements (portfolio, transcripts, language tests, possible interview). These pathways are general agreements, and direct admission is not yet possible, especially in regards to travel and visa uncertainty in 2002.
Each student will still need to file an application with the desired external degree programme and comply with the external degree programme deadlines and requirements. These agreements are for special consideration of JSAA applications in general, so they will always require specific processes on a case-by-case basis for external international application.
Doctoral Programme
JSAA is developing a focused doctoral programme in designed environments and spatial arts (architecture, landscape, interiors) with a focus on ethics, futures, and pedagogy. Students in this programme will have access to courses and possible short-term exchanges to one of these university partnerships (currently in development):
Centre for Historic Houses
The Centre for Historic Houses, at the JSAA, is dedicated to the research, promotion and revival of historic buildings. We develop innovative business models for historic houses with social impact and we collaborate and form alliances with national and international heritage organizations and academic institutions. While the focus is on historic houses in India the centre is committed to more general aspects and topics related to the built environment and heritage allowing for meaningful connections with the scholarly community and the heritage sector globally to share research and best practice.
Students at O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University) have the possibility to do internships both with the centre as well as with historic houses and palaces. Students also benefit from international workshops and lectures that we organize with some of the leading academic- heritage and conservation institutions. We regularly invite museum- design and heritage professionals from institutions such as New York University, Oxford University, the School of the Chicago Art Institute and many others. Students also have the possibility to participate in an international summer school in Palermo, Italy that the Centre organizes jointly with the University of Palermo and INTBAU (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism).
