JGU hosted the 12th All India Conference of China Studies (AICCS) on 8-10 November 2019. This is a flagship conference of China Studies in India and has been held each year for the past 12 years by the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi. JGU co-hosted this year’s event on the university campus as a partner with the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi.
The special address was delivered by Mr. V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The welcome address was delivered by Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha, Director, ICS, Delhi. The introductory address was delivered by Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU. The convenor’s address and keynote address were given by Professor (Dr.) Sreemati Chakrabarti, Vice Chairperson, ICS and Convenor, 12 AICCS and Dr. Mahendra Pal Singh, Former Vice Chancellor, National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata; and Former Head and Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi respectively.
This year’s theme on “Law, Governance and Society in China” has been developed keeping in mind the broader research interests of our university but more importantly to highlight the enormous changes underway in China in this field with significant debate and policy shift, particularly since 2013-14.
This event included special panel discussions on: ICS at 50: The Road Travelled, the Road Forward; Governance and Rule of Law in China; Comparing India and China in Global Affairs; Geopolitics, History and Foreign Policy; Politics, Society and Culture; Transboundary Rivers and Water Governance in South Asia; The Present State of India-China Relations; Teaching China in India: Narratives and Experiences of Foreign Faculty; Law, Governance and Development; East Asia: Security and Geopolitical Narratives of the Region; Fieldwork Experiences in China Studies.
