JGU has hired 165 new faculty members, which include 68 Academic Tutors and Teaching & Research for Intellectual Pursuit (TRIP) Fellows, in the academic session 2020-21. With the addition of these new faculty members, JGU has 725 full-time faculty members across nine schools and three research and capacity building institutes.
In 2009, JGU started its journey with 10 full-time faculty members and in 11 years our faculty strength has multiplied more than 70 times. JGU continues to maintain a faculty-student ratio of 1:9. JGU has also demonstrated excellence and diversity in the faculty hiring process drawing upon scholars and practitioners across different disciplines and backgrounds.
JGU has sustained the process of hiring faculty members who have outstanding educational qualifications, global orientation, impeccable publication record, relevant work experience, including in the world of practice, and a strong commitment to institution building.
Among our faculty members, 63% have international qualifications from the leading universities of the world such as the University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Columbia University, SOAS, Dalhousie University, University College London, University of Chicago, University of Warwick, Brown University, Indiana University, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, University of California-Berkeley, Tufts University, Queen Mary University of London, London School of Economics, University of Melbourne, University of Illinois, Cardiff University, Uppsala University, Utrecht University, University of Dublin, University of Kent, University of Buenos Aires, Leiden University, University of Vermont, University of Glasgow, Newcastle University, and Queensland University of Technology. Several of our faculty members are graduates of leading universities in India, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, University of Calcutta, University of Madras, University of Mumbai, Pune University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Bangalore, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, IITs, IIMs and NLSs, etc.
JGU’s focus on global orientation for promoting diversity is further strengthened by the fact that nearly 12% of our full-time faculty members are international, coming from 36 different countries/regions such as Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Nepal The Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom, Ukraine, United States of America and Zimbabwe.
Over 53% of full-time faculty members in JGU are women and nearly 41% of leadership positions are held by women faculty members across all schools of JGU. Moreover, 59% of the new faculty members joining us in this semester are women.
