JGU celebrates 71st Republic Day

JGU celebrated India’s 71st Republic Day on 26 January 2020 with an event on the university campus. The event began with patriotic songs, followed by a guard of honour. Following the flag hoisting accompanied by the national anthem, JGU Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar delivered the welcome address. Following this, Guests of Honour; H.E. Mr. Gudmundur Arni StefanssonAmbassador, Embassy of IcelandNew Delhi; and Shri K. Srinivas, IAS, Additional SecretaryDepartment of Personnel and Training (DoPT)Government of India addressed the gathering. Professor R. Sudarshan, Dean, Jindal School of Government and Public Policy addressed the audience on the “Significance of the Republic Day Celebrations”.  Professor (Dr.) Y.S.R. Murthy, Registrar, JGU delivered concluding remarks.

Bios of Guests of Honour

H.E. Mr. Gudmundur Arni Stefanss

H.E. Mr. Ambassador Gudmundur Arni Stefánsson is the Ambassador of the Embassy of Iceland to India. The Embassy’s area of jurisdiction, apart from India, includes Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He was appointed Ambassador in the Icelandic Foreign Service on 1 September 2005 and thereafter held many important and sensitive assignments. These include, among others, Iceland Ambassador to Sweden, Albania, Cyprus, Syria, Kuwait, the United States, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Prior to it, he held many interesting positions, among others, as Police officer in Reykjavík, journalist, Editor of the daily newspaper Althýdubladid, producer of radio programmes, Media Advisor and Mayor of the Town of Hafnarfjordur. He studied political science at the University of Iceland between 1978–1980.

Shri K. Srinivas, IAS

Mr. K. Srinivas belongs to the 1989 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. An officer from the Gujarat cadre, he is currently working as the Additional Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India. In Gujarat, he held many positions which include, among others, the Principal Secretary, Revenue Department; Secretary, General Administration Department; Joint Managing Director, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited; Managing Director, Gujarat Urban Development Corporation Limited; Collector of Ahmedabad District. He holds a LL.B. Degree from Gulbarga University and a LL.M. Degree from Nagarjuna University and a Master’s degree in International Development Policy from Sanford School of Public Policy, Duke University, North Carolina, USA.
