Nurul Barizah hold a Bachelor of Laws (S.H.) degree from the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia. She earned her Ph.D in Laws from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 2009 after previously receiving her Masters in Laws from the same University in 2001. Currently, she is lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. Besides her academic position above, she had experience as a Vice Dean for Cooperation and Development from 2010-2015, Vice Dean for Academic and Students Affairs from 2015-2018, and as a Dean from 2019.
Nurul’s area of expertise is on International Law, International Intellectual Property, International Trade Law, and International Dispute Resolution. Nurul also works also as a consultant for some Ministries in Indonesia, particularly in the context of drafting academic paper, position paper, developing policy and legal reform in her field of interest. Since 2012 until 2018, she has been appointed as a Member of Appeal Commission for the National Office of the Protection of Plant Varieties, under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic Indonesia. Then, in 2019, she has been appointed as a Head of this Appeal Commission. During her academic career, she has been actively publishing works in the areas of Intellectual Property and International Trade Law.
Nurul has awarded an Australian Alumni Award in 2012 by the Australian Government for category of Excellence in Education, due to significant contribution has Nurul made to the development of Indonesia, particularly to the development of law and well being of the society. Nurul also has received “Satya Lencana Karya Satya” from the President of the Republic of Indonesia for 20 Years Commitment as Lecturer (civil servant) in 2016. In addition, since 2018 until now, she has selected as a member of the Board of Governors of International Association of Law Schools (IALS); Member of Academic Boards, National Academy of Professional Studies (NAPS) Sydney; Member of Terrorism Eradication Coordination Forum- East Java; and Notary Honorary Council of East Java Region, Ministry of Law and Human Right of the Republic of Indonesia.
