Katyayani graduated with a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Jindal Global Law School in 2019 and recently received a Distinction as a postgraduate from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) London with an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict, and Justice. Her dissertation thesis explored the, ‘Regulation, Reclamation, and Resistance of Queer kinship in Contemporary India’. During her undergraduate at JGLS, she was a Teaching Assistant in Sociology, and a Research Associate at the Centre for Health Law and Technology (CHLET). Other than working in academia, Katyayani has interned with human rights practitioners Vrinda Grover and Indira Jaising, where she worked on matters surrounding constitutional law, custodial violence, and sexual harassment.

Katyayani is interested in the percolation of law in the sphere of gender and sexuality, human and collective subjective formations, ethnographies of resistance, postcolonial studies, critical legal studies and explorations outside the neoliberal historical archive. She is also interested in unpacking popular, visual and material culture as commentaries of intersectional realities.

During the day, Katyayani holds a particular affinity to reading fiction under the sun, attempting new recipes with ingredients from her kitchen garden, and composing a genre-defying array of playlists.
