Having completed a Bachelor’s in Economics from St.Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and an M.A. in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Shivani is keen on working at the intersections of disciplines. She has worked as a Researcher and a Community Manager at a digital start-up in Mumbai, where her work enquired into the subject of women and employment in India. She has interned with the Centre for Communication and Development Studies where she worked on digital inequality among school children in Pune. As part of her internship with a project of the District Mineral foundation, Gujarat, conducted in collaboration with TISS, Mumbai, she assessed baseline policy needs and conducted research on mining communities.
For her Master’s dissertation, she studied the Safai Karamchari Andolan as a social movement, tracing its evolution using social movement theory. Her research interests span the disciplines of Economics, Management, and Sociology.
