Poornima Hemant Narvekar has recently graduated from the School of Law, Rights and
Constitutional Governance with a degree in Master of Laws in Access to Justice from
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Prior to this, she pursued her undergraduate
B.S.L, LL.B degree from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
She has done her Juniorship in the Mumbai High Court under Senior Advocate Sunanda
Kumbhat and the Indian Patent and Trademarks office, Mumbai under Senior Advocate
Shamsundar Iyer . As per the course mandate of her LL.M degree, she has worked with
the Maharashtra State Commission for Women for her fieldwork.
Her area of interest includes Environment law, Educational rights of displaced people,
Right to Education, role of international relations and regional geopolitics and Human
rights law. She prefers field based research, but is comfortable with both doctrinal and
field based research.
Apart from the work she is interested in, she is a Kathak Artist and has been learning
and performing it since 13 years, she spends her spare time cooking, reading books. She
completed her LL.M. dissertation“A Tribal Perspective to Education-A Study with Katkari Community in Raigad district of Maharashtra ” under the guidance of Prof.
Shamim Modi, Chairperson, Centre for Law and Society, SLRCG, TISS. She has
experience in conducting field based research, collecting and analysing data for studies,
