Balu G Nair graduated from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, with a B.A.LL.B. (Hons.). Subsequent to the completion of his qualifying law degree, Balu worked in the Dispute Resolution verticals of AK Law Chambers as well as Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Balu was also a Public Interest Fellow with IDIA, where he assisted in the drafting of a petition highlighting the flaws in the data security framework of Aadhaar. Thereafter, he went on to do his LL.M. from the Melbourne Law School as the inaugural Alex Chernov Scholar. He was also awarded the Tata Endowment Scholarship as well as the Myers Family Scholarship towards living expenses. At Melbourne, he broadly focused on public law and also took special interest in the interface between public and private law.


Other than public law, Balu’s interest lies in the areas of tort and copyright laws. His interest for copyright law has seen him regularly contribute to SpicyIP, a leading Intellectual Property Rights blog.


His current research interests include interface between public and private law in India, temporary constitutionalism, and federal asymmetry.
