Aveek Chakravarty is a final-year PhD candidate in Law at the University of Turin, Italy. He received the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions grant in 2017 for his doctoral research and worked as an Early Stage Researcher in Turin. He specialises in international investment law, commercial contracts and international arbitration
Aveek graduated with a BA LL.B. (Hons.) in Law from the National Law Institute University, Bhopal in 2015 followed by a Master of Laws in International Trade Law, Contracts and Dispute Resolution from the University of Turin in 2016, graduating with a cum laude distinction. His Master’s thesis on India’s Model BIT programme was published as a chapter in the Yearbook on International Investment Law and Policy 2017 (Oxford University Press 2019). Aveek is qualified to legal practice in India and previously worked as an advocate in New Delhi with a focus on commercial litigation and consumer law.
Aveek has presented his research at fora across Europe and Asia, including the University of Birmingham, Xi’an Jiatong University and the Graduate Institute, Geneva. His research has addressed legal and policy issues in international trade and investment, with a recent focus on the assessment and award of monetary compensation by international adjudicatory mechanisms.
