Dr Rao’s specialization is Finance and Energy Risk Management. Dr Rao’s academic experience encompasses 18 years of teaching and research. Prior to joining academia Dr Rao served organizations namely St Stephens (Delhi), Hindustan Times Ltd and Sintex Industries Ltd (International Division). He has worked with University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Dehradun, MATS University, and DIT School of business in various academic and research capacities. He has held administrative positions like Head, Centre for Continuing Education and Assistant Dean Research at UPES. Dr Rao also renders his expertise as an academician to institutions namely NTPC School of Business, Banaras Hindu University, HPCL Management training Institute and Srinagar University.

Apart from teaching, Dr Rao provides his expertise to many corporate houses in the capacity as a trainer and consultant. He has renders his services to organizations namely Accenture, HPCL, IOCL, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, BSES Yamuna Power Ltd., Uttarakhand Power Transmission Corporation Limited, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, UPCL, Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited(PTCUL), Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited(UJVNL), REC, Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Ltd, State Bank of India, GMR Ltd and Blue Dart Ltd. He is a member of All India Management Association, Indian Accounting Association and Indian Commerce Association.

Dr. Rao holds strong flare of research and his research has been published in leading global journals such as Renewable and Sustainable Energy Review, Energy Policy, Energy Strategy Review, Energy Research & Social Science, Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research and Journal of Risk Finance to name a few. He has authored two books with reputed international publisher such as springer. He has also presented his research at various leading international and national conferences. He is also empaneled as reviewer for many leading global journals. He was awarded the Best Researcher Award (2017) by CIMA (London) & UPES for his contribution to the field of Energy Research.
