Biography

Dr. Kiran Kumar is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Jindal Global Business School. He holds a PhD in Humanities and Social sciences from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he specialized in the area of sociology of entrepreneurship. He completed his Integrated Masters in Arts (IMA) in Sociology in the University of Hyderabad. Prior to joining O.P. Jindal Global University, he served as an assistant professor in the department of sociology, Pondicherry University in the role of a guest faculty. Dr. Kiran during his PhD tenure attended several international and national conferences where he presented full papers at University of Bath School of Management, Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS), University of Bonn University of Federal Fluminense at Niteroi, Rio in Brazil and 5th International Business and Economic History at IIM Ahmedabad.

Dr. Kiran’s research lies at the intersection of sociology and entrepreneurship contributing to the emerging areas of sociology of entrepreneurship and business anthropology. His work critically engages with the traditional business community of Gauda Saraswat Brahmins and their entrepreneurship in the contemporary liberalized economy. He explores how entrepreneurial dominance and community consolidation are co-constituted through the re-interpretation and articulation of religious texts to legitimize entrepreneurship and capitalist accumulation in the contemporary India.
