JGU Vice Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, delivered an address on ‘Philanthropy and Higher Education: The Indian Experience of Building a Knowledge Society through Universities’ at the 2019 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland held on 21–25 January 2019.
Professor Raj Kumar was addressing the Caspian Ambassador Club during Caspian Week. His address highlighted the critical need for higher education institutions, both public and private, to internationalise in order to bring innovation and change to their home countries and economies. Great institutions worldwide have a direct impact on the development of economy and society. There is a need to take universities more seriously which will require significant funding, resources and better governance. Professor Raj Kumar added, “In the era of robotics, mega-data, artificial intelligence and dynamic change, only universities of global standards will prosper, equipped with the ability to innovate and grasp the latest cutting edge knowledge and research”.
