JGU was awarded the Diamond Rating in the 2018 QS I-Gauge Rankings. QS I-Gauge – India’s first nationwide higher education rating system – was launched by the Former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on 21 March 2018. JGU was awarded the Diamond Rating for its commitment towards academic and institutional excellence. Dr. Virander Chauhan, Chairman, National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) was also present on the occasion.

The award comes on the heels of several recent recognitions for JGU. In 2017, JGU was ranked among the Top 10 Private Institutions in India by QS BRICS University Rankings and Top 300 in the BRICS countries. JGU was also granted “Autonomy” by the UGC and MHRD recently under the “Graded Autonomy” scheme.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its research and teaching collaborations, the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS) at JGU undertook several initiatives over the past month. These include the Heroic Imagination Project, San Francisco on 21st and 22nd of April, 2018; participation in BILETA 2018, UK, a prestigious forum to discuss and share diverse research ideas and research developments in the field of Intellectual Property Law; and also taught a course on ‘Criminal Psychology’ at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Beijing.

Professor (Dr.) Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director, Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS), participated in the discussion on Heroic Imagination Project (HIP) and conducted a workshop on its “Validity and Applicability in India” in San Francisco on 21st and 22d of April, 2018. Each of the sessions of the HIP Roundtable uses a core curriculum to teach specific skills necessary for heroic action. The teachers and students are empowered to think positively about executing small miracles and heroic actions in everyday living. Lessons for group trainings can be tailored to a certain degree based upon specific needs or experiences of the group, which would be very relevant to the Indian setup. During the session, participants engaged in group and self-reflection, interactive activities, small group work, goal setting, and planning.

Major objectives of the HIP are:

• Developing a Growth Mindset
• Combating the Bystander Effect
• Combating Stereotype, Prejudice, and Discrimination

JIBS and CIPTEL participated in BILETA 2018, UK, April 2018

BILETA is a prestigious forum to discuss and share diverse research ideas and research developments in the field of Intellectual Property Law. Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS) and Centre for Intellectual Property & Technology Law (CIPTEL) – Dr. Sanjeev Sahni, Dr. Indranath Gupta (JGLS), and Ms. Sweta Lakhani (JIBS) – participated in two conferences at BILETA 2018.

The presentations at both the conferences were based on the ongoing research project on ‘Digital Piracy: Comparative Study of psychological, sociological and cultural factors’ conducted by Jindal Institute of Behavioural Science (JIBS) and Centre for Intellectual Property & Technology Law (CIPTEL) at JGU.  The issue of piracy is largely viewed through a single lens, the assumption being that only those who cannot afford legitimate copies of software, music or movies indulge in piracy. In the context of general awareness about existing IP rights mostly copyright, this project analyses behavioural trends of individuals who indulge in piracy in India. Findings of the pilot research project were shared with the audience with the proposal to collaborate further on this.

Professor (Dr.) Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director, Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS), taught a course on ‘Criminal Psychology’ at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), Beijing from 23rd to 30th March. The course specifically focused on understanding criminal behaviour, causes for such behaviour thereby helping to develop the students critical and self-reflexive analytical skills and ability to evaluate the criminal justice system from a psychological perspective.

As part of the “Digital JGU” initiative, the University’s Human Resources department introduced the myHR web portal for automating HR processes in order to enhance effectiveness in HR delivery, to improve organisational capability and to build a robust platform for day-to-day HR services. The portal allows employees to access various HR services such as payroll, claims & perquisite reimbursements, attendance & leave management, PDR and travel requests. 

A Mobile App will be launched subsequently, offering these services at the fingertips of employees.

Payroll services have been activated effective from April 2018 and the attendance and leave management system will be added during the month of May 2018. 

Employees can access the myHR portal through their log in ID and password as per their convenience at anytime from anywhere.

The Centre for India Australia Studies (CIAS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Delhi Daredevils, to help students garner a practical perspective of the mechanics of sports law and governance in the popular cricket league. The signing of MoU took place in the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi on 4 April 2018.

Former cricketer Sunil Valson, a member of the 1983 world cup winning squad and now associated with the Daredevils team and Melanie Jones, former Australian women’s cricketer and IPL commentator on ‘Women in Sport’, were present at the event.

The Centre for Comparative and Global Education at the International Institute for Higher Education Research and Capacity Building (IIHEd) released the first issue of the Working Paper Series on “Thinking Thursdays”, published by IIHEd. The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at the Jindal School of International Affairs organised a panel discussion on ASEAN and China in the South China Sea Disputes in order to contribute to the pool of growing discourse on the subject.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation has acknowledged the initiative led by the Center for IP and Technology Law (CIPTEL) at JGU celebrating “Powering Change: Women in Innovation and Creativity” through a series of special guest lectures led by women stalwarts in the field of IP and student events including a documentary film screening and group discussion on this year’s theme on April 26, 2018. The event was added to the World IP Day events map by WIPO as well.

This day is celebrated annually to explore the role of intellectual property rights in encouraging innovation and creativity. This year, CIPTEL is celebrating the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future. Through the “Conversations to Mark World IP Day” discussion series, CIPTEL aims to highlight the creative, philosophical, scientific, technical and economic contribution of women leaders in the development of knowledge. Discussions were held on myriad issues, including:

• Folk Art and IP Commercialisation
• Is UPOV 1991 a good fit for developing countries?
• CRISPR CAS9: Innovations in the area of Biotech and Agriculture
• Extracting value from IP assets through licensing in the ICT sector
• The how to’s of managing IP to gain competitiveness in the markets
• Understanding IP commercialisation under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002

As part of the University’s Employee Engagement Programme, JGU’s Department of Physical Education organised the Jindal Cricket league for faculty and staff members in which an exceptional response was received from all staff and faculty members.

More than 100 employees registered for this fun filled activity. The event was aimed at creating group cohesiveness and harmony among the JGU community. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place during the month of May.

SPREE’18 Sports competition- 2018

After an astonishing success in MAGNUS (15^th to 18^th March) where JGU won the “Overall Championship Trophy”, the JGU sports contingent participated in “SPREE”, Annual National Sports Tournament of BITS, Goa from 21^st March to 25^th March 2018. All players showed tremendous stamina and courage to compete against more than 35 colleges/universities of India like University of Delhi, Manipal University etc. Some of the outstanding performances are as follows-
