undertook a study\u00a0on the right to contraceptive services\u00a0and information for women in Haryana.\u00a0The primary objective was to delineate\u00a0whether the state of Haryana is fulfilling its\u00a0obligations to provide women with access\u00a0to contraceptive services and information. It\u00a0presented findings from a multi-stakeholder\u00a0analysis and human rights assessment\u00a0of the various policy, social and cultural\u00a0barriers that impede women in Haryana\u00a0from realizing their fundamental right to\u00a0This study undertaken by the CHLET aimed\u00a0to determine and analyze the impact of\u00a0the landmark judgment of 2 July 2009 by\u00a0the Delhi High Court on the lives of sexual\u00a0minorities in Delhi. The Court\u2019s judgment\u00a0was in response to a petition challenging the\u00a0constitutional validity of Section 377 of the\u00a0Indian Penal Code (IPC) which criminalized\u00a0consensual sexual activities between\u00a0homosexual adults conducted in private.<\/p><p>The judgment held that Section 377 infringed\u00a0upon fundamental rights under Articles\u00a014, 15, 21 of the Constitution of India, and\u00a0declared the section to be unconstitutional\u00a0to the extent that it criminalized private\u00a0consensual sexual activity between adults.\u00a0The research conducted for this study\u00a0consisted primarily of personal interviews\u00a0with members of the LGBT community.\u00a0Researchers interacted with individuals \u00a0belonging to different sexual minorities who\u00a0described their lives before and after 2 July\u00a02009. The findings of the interviews were\u00a0compiled and correlated along with similar\u00a0studies conducted in other parts of the\u00a0world to provide a global picture, showing\u00a0that decriminalization consistently leads to\u00a0a rise in the level of social acceptance,\u00a0and\u00a0more importantly, self-acceptance of sexual\u00a0minorities. This impact assessment is the\u00a0first of its kind in India and provides valuable\u00a0first-hand accounts of LGBT life pre- and\u00a0post-decriminalization. The findings of this\u00a0report clearly show that the Delhi High Court\u00a0judgment has positively impacted the LGBT\u00a0community and has improved the quality\u00a0of life of sexual minorities.
