\n\t\t\tThe Law Commission of India received a reference from the Hon\u2019ble High Court of Karnataka in 2022 and from High Court of Madhya Pradesh in 2023 requesting the Commission to rethink the age criteria for sexual consent, taking into consideration the rising number of cases relating to minor girls above the age of 16 years falling in love, eloping and having sexual intercourse with the boy, thereby attracting the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (\u201cPOCSO\u201d) and\/or the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (\u201cIPC\u201d).
