Magistrate in Rajasthan charged under S.345 for allegedly asking gang rape survivor to strip

By Paridhi Jain

In Rajasthan, a judicial magistrate named Ravindra Kumar from Hindaun city faces serious allegations after being accused of ordering a Dalit gang rape survivor to strip in court to display her injuries. This incident, reported on March 30, led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Kumar. The survivor recounted that after providing her statement, the magistrate called her back and demanded she remove her clothes to reveal her injuries. She refused, expressing discomfort and pointing out that she would only do so if a female official were present. The FIR has led to charges under Section 345 of the Indian Penal Code for wrongful confinement, along with relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act, highlighting the severity of the accusations against the magistrate.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the treatment of survivors, particularly those from marginalized communities. The demand for accountability and justice in this case underscores the importance of sensitivity, respect, and adherence to legal procedures, especially when dealing with survivors of sexual violence. The allegations against the judicial magistrate highlight the need for proper training and awareness regarding handling such delicate situations within the judicial system.
