A single judge bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the petitioner praying for protection to be sent to the children’s home until attaining the age of majority. The peittioner’s were a 17-year old girl and a 19-year old boy, who were in a live-in relationship. The petitioners soughts protection due the alleged harassment faced by their families. The court noted tat Article 21 wwhich provides the right to dignity and personal liberty cannot be limited except by law. The court directed the children’s home to house the minor petitioner until she attained majority. The court also stated that the order should not be taken to validate the relationship between the petitioners or protect them from legal action for violation of law, if any, committed by them.
