A division bench of the Bombay High Court ordered the immediate release of a convict who was a juvenile at the time of the offence and has spent more than 14 years in jail. The court had ordered the determination of age to be conducted by the state. It was determined that the convict was about sixteen years of age at the time of the offence in 2005. The petition was lodged for the release of the convict since the state had denied early release even after the petitioner spent 14 years in jail. The court granted immediate release since it was proven that the convict was a juvenile at the time of the offence and had spent more than 3 years in jail. (WRIT PETITION NO.5823 OF 2021)
