A division bench of the Supreme Court has directed the Director General of Police, Rajasthan take action against a Police Officer who is accused of assaulting a minor witness while trying to compel her to confess that she shot her mother. While deciding a bail application for the accused in a murder case, the court directed an inquiry to be conducted regarding the alleged assault of the daughter of the deceased by the police. The minor witness had revealed to the trial court that in the wake of shooting her mother, the accused threatened her and then went on to bribe the police to claim that the deceased committed suicide or that the minor witness shot her. The police allegedly went on to show the fourteen-year-old witness how to shoot and then assaulted her so that she admitted that she shot her own mother. The trial is still yet to be completed.
