Sonipat, May 19, 2016:<\/strong> Jindal Global Law School students, Raveena Sethia, Sree Ramya Hari and Chetna Reddy, have secured a position in the World Rounds of the Herbert Smith Freehills Moot Court Competition. This is an annual mooting competition organized by The Dickson Poon School of Law, King\u2019s College London, and sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills, one of the world\u2019s leading law firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fourth year students of Jindal not only\nqualified for the prestigious competition but were also awarded the King’s\nCollege London Herbert Smith Freehills Scholarship for being the team with the\nhighest score in the written round (Best Memorial Award).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulating the qualifying team,\nProfessor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global\nUniversity, said, \u201cIt is a well known fact that advocacy competitions require\nextensive preparation, through knowledge and understanding of the law, high\nstandards of professionalism, and the ability to perform under pressure and\nthese skills are employed in the legal profession on a daily basis. The team\u2019s\nselection is testament to the outstanding performance of our students, who have\ndemonstrated these skills on a global platform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Kumar further observed, \u201cThis\ncompetition also provides an excellent opportunity for our students to\ndemonstrate their skills amongst international competition law specialists,\nwhich is in line with the core philosophy of our programmes that seek to\npromote global curriculum, global research and global interactions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The format of the competition allows only\nthe Top 12 teams from across the world to participate in oral [World]\nRounds based on a memorial qualifier. The JGLS team is one of the twelve teams\nthat will advance to the oral rounds to be held at the Dickson Poon School of\nLaw, Somerset House East Wing, London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPreparing for the HSF Moot Court\nCompetition, has been a truly enriching experience for the team. We’ve enjoyed\nworking on the problem question, and have learnt a lot about complex issues\nsurrounding essential patents in the telecommunications sector. We are\ndelighted to rank amongst the top twelve institutions and eagerly look forward\nto bringing laurels to our university,\u201d said, Chetna Reddy, member of the\nqualifying team of JGLS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to the submission, the trio worked\nclosely for over two months, juggling tight schedules to fit in discussions,\npractice sessions and strategizing exercises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Manveen Singh, one of the faculty\ncoaches for the team and Assistant Professor at the Jindal Global Law School,\nsaid, \u201cThe students have been working tirelessly for the past few months to\nqualify for the international mooting competition. The subject matter was quite\ntechnical, with a plethora of Intellectual Property and Competition issues and\nwhat they have achieved is truly commendable. We are proud of them and with the\nWorld Rounds fast approaching, we wish them further luck and success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Best Memorial award is a scholarship\nfor student members from a University in a Medium or Low HDI Country (based on\nthe UNDP Human Development Index) and has been secured by the team by scoring\nthe highest score in the written round of the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team will be participating in the World\nRounds of the Moot this June and look forward to bringing the winner\u2019s trophy\nto JGU. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
