Jindal Global University Signs Agreements With Seven Top Australian Universities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India and Australia Strengthen Education Partnerships   <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>6 December 2019 (New Delhi\/Sydney)<\/em><\/strong><em>: <\/em><strong>O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU),one of\nIndia\u2019s Institutions of Eminence, signed Seven MOUs with leading universities\nin Australia.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>Her Excellency, Hon. Margaret Beazley, the Governor of\nNew South Wales<\/strong>, hosted a delegation from JGU led by Founding Vice\nChancellor, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar at Government House. <strong>The Governor\nof New South Wales presided over the signing of MOUs with the following leading\nAustralian universities, all of which have been ranked as top 3% of the\nuniversities in the world: Macquarie University, University of New South Wales,\nUniversity of New England, University of Newcastle, University of Sydney,\nUniversity of Technology Sydney, Western Sydney University. It is notable that\ntwo of these universities are among the top 50 in the world.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, Governor of NSW said, \u201cAs\nGovernor of New South Wales, I am honoured to host the signing of the\nMOUS&nbsp; between a number of New South Wales universities and O.P Jindal\nGlobal University at Government House. <strong>These partnerships will benefit\nIndian and New South Wales students and faculty members, who will gain\nopportunities to deepen their educational and cultural connections, while also\npromoting important links that will foster academic excellence in our two\nnations.<\/strong> Dennis and I have been involved with the growth and development of\nO.P. Jindal Global University in our roles as Adjunct Professors. It is\nexciting to see the plans for greater collaboration between O.P. Jindal Global\nUniversity and New South Wales universities come to fruition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;At this interesting time in global diplomacy, international\ntrade and international flow of knowledge, JGU entering into strategic\npartnerships with leading Australian universities will catalyse cutting edge\nresearch, knowledge sharing among faculty and will boost international student\nmobility. More specifically, the partnerships will promote faculty and student\nexchanges, dual degree programmes, joint teaching, joint research, joint\nconferences and joint publications, besides pathways into the Ph.D. programmes\nin the Australian universities.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;JGU, with its academic programmes in law, business,\ninternational affairs, public policy, liberal arts &amp; humanities,\njournalism, architecture and banking &amp; finance, will inspire academicians\naspiring to bring about a positive change in the current world order.&nbsp;<em>\u201cThis\nis a historic moment for JGU. We have signed agreements with some of the world\nclass universities in Australia, which will provide unique opportunities for\nthe faculty and students of JGU. Our commitment to strengthening\nAustralia-India relationship goes beyond higher education partnerships. India\nand Australia share values of democracy, pluralism and the rule of law. As the\nyoungest university to break into the QS World University Rankings, the signing\nof these agreements reflect JGU\u2019s commitment to promote internationalisation\nand meaningful partnerships with the leading Australian universities,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;says,\nJGU\u2019s Founding Vice Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;A delegation led by Professor C. Raj Kumar visited Australia\nthis week as a part of JGU\u2019s larger vision to establish strong international\ncollaborations with global universities. The Australian visit coincides with\nJGU\u2019s tenth anniversary and a commitment since its founding to developing strong\nAustralia-India linkages. Professor Kumar said collaboration in higher\neducation not only strengthens institutional ties, but also bridges the gap\nbetween Australia and India.&nbsp;<em>\u201cThese collaborations will create stronger\npeople-to-people linkages and research collaborations between students and\nfaculty in India and Australia. India\u2019s demographic dividend has created new\nopportunities for higher education to become the strongest pillar of the\npartnership between both the countries,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;JGU is also home to the Centre for India Australia Studies\n(CIAS), the first and only centre embedded in an Indian higher education\ninstitution that is focused on the India-Australia bilateral relationship. CIAS\nis led by Australian Academic, Professor Shaun Star, Associate Professor &amp;\nAssociate Dean of Jindal Global Law School at JGU. JGU has MOUs with 20\nAustralian universities as well as a leading law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth\nand the Commonwealth Attorney General\u2019s Department.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<em>\u201cThe partnership between the top universities in\nAustralia and India augurs well for the growing bilateral relationship between\nthe two countries. The Centre for India-Australia Studies (CIAS) housed in an\nIndian university, aims to inspire the next generation of Australian and Indian\nstudents to learn about and embrace the opportunities in each country and to\ncontribute to the enduring partnership between the two nations. CIAS is working\ntowards developing an Australian imagination in India and an Indian\nintellectual presence in Australia.\u201d,<\/em>&nbsp;CIAS Director, Prof. Shaun Star\nsaid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;As part of the vision of the CIAS, JGU will be hosting more\nthan 100 Australian students in India in 2020, for various India Immersion\nProgrammes. To date, JGU has hosted nearly 300 distinguished Australians for\nlectures, conferences and workshops, providing students and faculty the\nopportunity to interact with the best and brightest in Australia.&nbsp;<em>\u201cAustralia\u2019s\nrobust universities can build partnerships with some of the globally ranked\nIndian universities to promote intellectual engagement and\ninternationalisation. This can only be a good thing for both nations\u201d,&nbsp;<\/em>Prof.\nShaun Stars said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;During the visit to Sydney, Professor C. Raj Kumar presented\na distinguished keynote lecture on \u201cThe Rule of Law and Democracy in India\u201d at\nthe Government House, hosted by the Governor of New South Wales. The function\nwas attended by members of the JGU delegation, Vice Chancellors from various\npartner universities, academics, members of the Judiciary, senior Barristers\nand lawyers from Australia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>ABOUT\nO.P. JINDAL GLOBAL UNIVERSITY<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nThe Government of India has recognised JGU as an &#8220;Institution of\nEminence&#8221; (IoE). JGU is the only non-STEM and non-Medicine University\nwhich has been recognised as an IoE. JGU is an initiative of the Jindal Steel\n&amp; Power Foundation.&nbsp;Founded in 2009, O.P. JGU is the only Indian private university in the top 150 &#8216;young&#8217;\nuniversities in the world (under 50 years of age) in the QS Young University\nRankings 2020.
