Jindal Global University (JGU) has signed a MoU with Cornell Law School,\nNew York allowing the students of JGLS to pursue a dual degree programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A MoU to this\neffect was signed by Professor Eduardo M. Pe\u00f1alver, Dean of Cornell Law School\nand (Dr) C Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU in New Delhi today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the\nfirst time in the history of the eight Ivy League law schools in the USA\n(Columbia, Cornell,&nbsp;Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale, and University\nof Pennsylvania) that an international partnership of this&nbsp;magnitude and\nsignificance has been&nbsp;established&nbsp;with any law school outside of\nEurope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dual\ndegree programme opens up a number of exciting opportunities for JGLS students.\nThis will enable students to get access to and learn from the top-notch and\nrenowned law professors in Cornell University Law School. JGLS students\nsecuring a JD degree in Cornell University Law School will also be eligible to\ntake the American Bar Exam as well as sit in for campus recruitments taking\nplace in Cornell Law School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\npartnership comes to force with immediate effect and the first batch of JGLS\nstudents to Cornell Law School will be eligible to start in the Fall 2018. JGLS\nstudents who are in the fourth year of the five-year law programme and in the\nsecond year of the three-year LL.B. programme at JGLS are eligible to apply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professor (Dr)\nC Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU and the Founding Dean of Jindal\nGlobal Law School <\/strong>speaking on the occasion said, \u201cIn a\nglobalized world where legal practice and transaction are increasingly\ncross-border&nbsp;in nature, any first hand&nbsp;exposure to global high\nquality teaching and legal training would go a long way in shaping the careers\nof law school students.&nbsp;A higher education degree which helps build a\nstrong foundation in academic fundamentals and at the same time provides the\nrequired skills and knowledge necessary to compete in a global marketplace is\nneeded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eduardo M.\nPe\u00f1alver, Dean of Cornell Law School said, \u201c<\/strong>Cornell Law\nSchool is excited by this new collaboration with one of the finest law schools\nin the world\u2019s largest democracy. We look forward to welcoming Jindal\u2019s superb\nstudents to our JD program\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Professor\nSital Kalantry, Clinical Professor of Law, Cornell Law School<\/strong>\nsaid, \u201cIn today\u2019s world the work of lawyers is increasingly\ntransnationally.&nbsp; The Cornell-Jindal\nprogram is training lawyers to be successful in an increasingly global world\nwhere transactions and disputes occurs across multiple boundaries. We look\nforward to providing an exciting learning experience to the students,\nsignificantly adding to their skills and positively shaping their law careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jindal Global\nUniversity has a long association with Cornell Law School. In 2011 both the\nUniversities came together to sign a MoU to establish a flexible framework for\nacademic collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the year 2012, A Case Study of the Citizen Participation Clinic was\nconducted jointly by Cornell International Human Rights Clinic and Jindal Good\nRural Governance and Citizen Participation Clinic \u2013 This report encouraged the\ndevelopment of robust clinical legal education programs in India. It was a\njoint class taught by Professor Sital Kalantry via videoconference at Jindal\nGlobal Law School in Sonipat, India and Cornell Law School in Ithaca, N.Y. from\nJanuary to April 2012. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean of\nCornell Law School, Professor Eduardo Pe\u00f1alver and Professor Sital Kalantry\nhave been delivering lectures on several occasions at JGU. Professor Eduardo Pe\u00f1alver\nspoke on \u2018\u2018Civil Rights and Exclusion in Property Law\u2019\u2019 at JGU campus in 2012.\nThe robust relationship between two Universities saw many Student Exchange\nprogrammes, International Immersion Programmes and collaborative research\nprojects being undertaken. In the year 2015, a policy paper on \u201cIndia&#8217;s Human\nTrafficking Laws and Policies and the UN Trafficking Protocol: Achieving\nClarity\u201d was jointly carried under the aegis of Centre for Health Law, Ethics\n&amp; Technology, Rights Clinic of Jindal Global Law School; International\nHuman Rights Clinic of Cornell Law School and International Human Rights Clinic\nof the University of Chicago Law School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cornell Law\nSchool is based in the Cornell University, a private Ivy League university\nlocated in Ithaca, New York. It is one of the eight Ivy League law schools and\noffers three law degree programs (J.D., LL.M., and J.S.D.) along with several\ndual-degree programs in conjunction with other professional schools at the\nuniversity. Established in 1887 as Cornell&#8217;s Department of Law, the law school\nis ranked 13th in the United States by U.S. News &amp; World Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O.P. Jindal\nGlobal University (JGU) has recently been ranked among the top 10 private\ninstitutions in India by QS University Rankings: BRICS 2018 edition.
