10th<\/sup> December, 2016<\/strong> Jindal Global University (JGU) observed World Human Rights Day on 10th<\/sup> December at a solemn function organised by JGU\u2019 s Centre for Human Rights Studies (CHRS) at the India Habitat Centre on 10th<\/sup> December, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jindal Global University took this to occasion to honour one\nof the noted human right crusader from North East, Babloo Loitongbam. Mr\nLoitongbam through his organization, Human Rights Alert, has been in the\nforefront of promoting justice, rule of law and peace in Manipur for over two\ndecades. Noted human rights litigator of Supreme Court, Dr Colin Gonsalves also\ngraced the occasion as the chief guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamenting on the global socio-political scenario at large\nplagued with strife, conflict and ethnic cleansing, Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr)\nC Raj Kumar said that wish we could \u201ccelebrate\u201d\nhuman rights day. In Jindal Global University many ways, \u201cwe solemnly recognise\nthe long struggle that is needed for achieving human rights to its fullest\npotential \u200e\u201d, Professor Raj Kumar added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On awarding Babloo\nLoitongbam, Professor\nRaj Kumar added, \u201cit is not an award but a recognition of a contribution for steadfastly\nadhering to the principle and values that shaped the evolution of human rights\nand working under extreme adverse circumstances that goes beyond any individual\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recipient\nof the award, Mr Loitongbam, long struggled in the pursuit of justice and peace in conflict ridden\nManipur for over two decades. He has been an inspiration to many to peacefully\njoin the struggle against injustice, impunity and inequality, strictly within\nthe contours of the Indian Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Accepting the award Mr Loitongbam\nspoke about the long road ahead and asserted his steadfast believe in peaceful\nresolution of the conflict. Citing Irom Sharmila\u2019s case as a historical pointer\nin reaching out to the global world to take a note and made the world realise\nabout Manipur\u2019s decades long struggle for human rights, Mr Loitongbam said that\nhe hopeful of emergence of a \u201ctransformative leadership\u201d which comes out and tries to look out\nhumanity at both side and frame the question of not so much as\u201d who is wrong\nbut what is wrong? And what can be done to on both sides\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JGU also\nlauded and honoured the effort of Extra \u2013judicial Execution Victims\u2019\nFamilies(EEVFAM), Manipur.EEVFAM is a unique organization, perhaps only one in\nthe world which constitutes of widows of people killed in extra judicial\nexecution. EEVFAM has gained appreciation for their dedicated work in\ndocumenting and presenting a strong case in front of Supreme Court of India\nhighlighting the plight and alleged instances of illegal extra judicial\nkillings in Manipur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this day\nJGU also launched JGU Human Rights Clinic, an initiative at the micro level to\nreach out to the prison, juvenile homes in neighbouring Sonepat. It is also an\nattempt to instil in students about developing a high sense of social\nconsciousness towards deeper sense of human values that needs to be\nperpetuated.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
