And that is what one gets\nto do as a judge, where judiciary gives an extra ordinary tool to bring a\nmeaning to the common man\u2019s life. At the interactive session \u2018Candid\nConversations on Careers in Law and Justice: Judges as Conscience Keepers of Democracy\u2019,\norganized by Office of Career Service\u2019s at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU),\nthis was the message to the budding lawyers from the speakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graced by Hon\u2019ble Mr Justice Michael\nD. Wilson, Supreme Court, Hawaii and Hon\u2019ble Justice Ms Sabrina McKenna,\nSupreme Court, Hawaii in conversation with Prof. (Dr.) C Raj Kumar, Founding\nVice Chancellor, JGU, the session deliberated on topics like the role and\nmotivations of a Judge and the contributions of judiciary in the society and\nits role in protecting democracy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking about the motivations behind\nbecoming a judge, Justice Wilson said, \u201cA judge is the ultimate determinant of\nwhether authentic justice or aspirational justice will prevail in the society.\nAnd that indeed is the most important power that can motivate a person to take\nup judiciary and become a judge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explaining a judge\u2019s role in ensuring\nthe democratic rights, Justice McKenna told, \u201cThe threats that a democracy\nfaces is to be countered by law and judiciary. Lawyers have to step forward to\nensure justice and make people believe in the role of law.\u201d She urged the\nbudding lawyers to understand the power of youth and to clamour and become\nagents of change in response to questions raised by the students on role of the\njudiciary while dealing with issues like pollution, climate change, pesticides\netc.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting the importance of these\ncandid conversations Prof (Dr.) C Raj Kumar remarked \u201cI am confident the\nexchange of ideas and conversation that has taken place in this session, will\nhelp to broaden the horizons and perspective of our students. It is a wonderful\nopportunity to learn from the best and to understand international issues and\njustice framework.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme Court of Hawaii has been\ngranting internship opportunities to students of the Jindal Global Law School\n(JGLS). Till 2018, a total of 18 students of JGLS have had the opportunity to\nintern at the Supreme Court of Hawaii. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s session came as a learning\nfor the students where they got insights about the functioning of the Role of\nLaw as well as an idea of how the judiciary system works in US and Hawaii,\nvis-\u00e0-vis India. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sonipat, 18th March 2019: Not all get a chance to make a difference in countering the threats to the society.
