Raj Kumar, Founding Vice-Chancellor O P Jindal Global University (JGU) was\nreleased by Nobel laureate Amratya Sen at Rashtrapati Bhawan today. President\nPranab Mukherjee was presented with the first copy of the book. The book has\nbeen published by Oxford University Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor,\nJGU graced the function and shared his views on the subject. Professor (Dr.)\nVirander S. Chauhan, Acting Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC)\npresented the keynote address. Mr. Sivaramakrishnan V, Managing\nDirector, Oxford University Press India was also\npresent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book comes at a time when social,\npolitical, and economic shifts across the world make it imperative for India to\ntake stock of the state of its universities and re-imagine their role in the\nfast changing global scenario. The volume provides international and\ncomparative perspectives on higher education and will therefore immensely\nuseful in highlighting issues being faced by Indian universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chancellor <strong>Jindal<\/strong> highlighted JGU\u2019s commitment to shaping India&#8217;s aspirations of building\nworld-class universities through comparative and international dimensions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nuniversities of the future must become central pillars of growth and\ndevelopment of a nation that churn out intelligent minds for the 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;century\u201d,\nMr. Jindal added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor(Dr) <strong>Raj Kumar<\/strong>, said,\n\u201cIt is President Mukherjee\u2019s 6th association with our University. We wear it\nlike a badge of honour. We at JGU feel extremely lucky to have hosted him on multiple\noccasions to discuss key national and global issues, particularly relating to\nhigher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis emphasis on the role of both\nstudents and their mentors to think out of box on ways to enhance innovation\nand aspire excellence echoes our own steadfast commitment to the cause of\ninstitution building as potent instrument of nation building, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking about the book, Professor Raj\nKumar observed, \u201cAt a time when the state of universities and their value to larger\nsociety is being increasingly debated, and universities are compelled to\nrethink their role and the role of higher education, the book raises questions\nthat are central to how we will transform and create universities of the\nfuture, not only in India but in other parts of the world as well\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The contributors in the book have\nargued for fundamental reforms to bring about a sense of purpose. The chapters\nare authored by leading scholars in the field of law, liberal arts,\ninternational relations, and science and technology studies, and reflect the\nmultiple approaches necessary to address the most difficult challenges of our\ntimes.
