New\nDelhi, January 30, 2019:<\/strong> O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) hosted Higher\nEducation Leader\u2019s Conference on the theme \u2018Achieving Research Excellence\nwithin ASEAN and Indian Universities\u2019<\/em> on 28th of January, 2019. This\nConference was aimed to create an ethos for interdisciplinary research within\nASEAN and Indian Universities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his\nopening address, Professor\n(Dr.) C. Raj Kumar<\/strong>, Founding Vice Chancellor,\nJGU<\/strong> emphasised\non the need to build research-based partnerships and create an equal system to\nenable faculty members pursue the idea of research collaboration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Raj Kumar reiterated JGU\u2019s focus on\nresearch and said, \u201cto encourage faculty members to deliver research-driven\nteaching has been an integral part of the founding vision of JGU. We have taken\nseveral steps to realise this vision including a rewards system for high\nquality research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her introduction to the proceeding, JGU\u2019s\nDirector of International Affairs Kalyani Unkule, Associate Professor, Jindal Global\nLaw School observed, \u201cthe unique significance of this conference lies in\nbringing together institutions from 14 countries across the world to introspect\non key aspects of the global future of higher education. The foundations for\nfuture co-operation to implement the outcomes of this conference has<\/s>\nhave been laid through the signing of agreements between JGU and Derby\nUniversity, UK, Vietnam National University, Vietnam and University of Modern\nSciences, UAE, among others.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nconference comprised of three segments that supported the main theme; The\nagendas of the segments were:

\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Novel Approaches to funding research<\/li>
  2. Industry-Academia interface for research and innovation. <\/li>
  3. Creating an institutional environment supporting\ninterdisciplinary research.

    \n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Over 100 international students, mainly from\nsouth and southeast Asian countries\nattended the seminar. This diverse set of audience proved to be very\ninformative and interactive towards community development and\ninter-disciplinary research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The speakers addressed the challenges of\nimplementing research projects, such as the lack of funding and participation\nby governments and existing internal conflicts within the organisations. \nPossible solutions towards establishment\nof an interface to expand research networks and strengthening institutional\ncapacity were also proposed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Moreover, the delegates focused on creation\nof an institutional environment conducive for interdisciplinary research. While\nmost of them stated that funding is a key issue, imperative to be resolved,\nquite a few said that the quality of research can only reach excellent\nstandards provided there is an acceptance of different cultures and integration\nof different departments to work together. Some of the delegates present also\nspoke about the traditional way of learning by students and how it has to be\nchallenged given the emergence of new methods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The diverse economic conditions of the\nnations fuelled further discussions on the issue of funding and its prospective\nsolutions. Another delegate talked about \u201cIndustry 4.0\u201d and whether the\nexisting system will be able to keep up with the rapid advancement of the\nnations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Another focus point of deliberation was on\noutreach. Delegates stressed on the importance of global initiatives of\noutreach programmes exposing students to different and possibly better\nresources and techniques, and the need of exposing the faculty to a certain\nlevel of professionalism and rules during research to maintain the standard and\nquality of the product of their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The discussions generated by this seminar\nwill assuredly initiate worldwide discussions and expansion of global networks\nfor partnerships in the field of research excellence.\nPreceding this event, last year Professor of Law Dr. Ade Maman Suherman of\nJenderal Soedirman University, Indonesia had visited the campus to sign a Memorandum\nof Association (MoA) with JGU. This MoA is an indication of goodwill between\nthe nations to work towards its main goal: Achieving Research Excellence. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
