New Delhi, February 11, 2016:<\/strong> Delhi Public School recently awarded its meritorious students at a prestigious badging ceremony held at its school ground in R. K. Puram. The function is an annual event that seeks to felicitate exemplary senior school students each year. The Vice-Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University, Professor (Dr.) C Raj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion amongst other leading academics, scholars, alumni and parents who took part in the elaborate ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivering the welcome address on the occasion Dr. D. R.\nSaini, Principal, Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, highlighted the importance\nof a sound education system capable of equipping students for life, he said,\n\u201cThe importance of education in the life of an individual cannot be overstated.\nIt shapes individuals in their formative years and imbues them with values that\nwould govern all their choices in life. It is said if you are planning for a\nyear, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are\nplanning for a lifetime, educate people. Indeed, one can even say that the\nquality of education will determine the destiny of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is an honour and a privilege to be the Principal of DPS\nR.K. Puram, the school that stands for excellence and continuously sets the\nhighest standards, the school that is an alma mater which all alumni look back\nto with fond memories, the school that has given this country many\ndistinguished personalities and leaders in diverse fields.\u201d, he further added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivering the Chief Guest lecture at the congregation,\nProfessor (Dr.) C Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, O. P. Jindal Global University,\nhighlighted the acute shortage of faculty in academic institutions across the\ncountry, and said, \u201cThe leading educational institutions face an acute shortage\nof strong faculty in the country. As per statistics, the IITs alone face a\nfaculty shortage of close to 32 per cent and almost all the central\nuniversities in the country are confronted with a faculty crunch impacting the\nquality of education in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEducation is fundamental to development and growth of a\ncountry and its citizenry, and the current scenario with over 40% faculty\npositions lying vacant across institutions cannot be allowed to continue. The\nyouth of our nation must come forth and embrace this challenge by opting for\nacademics as their first and foremost career choice\u201d, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Kumar further highlighted the important need of having\nholistic education programs for the youth of the country, he said, \u201cAchieving\nand maintaining a degree of quality, quantity, inclusivity and accessibility\nall together is the need of the hour in the educational institutes of the\ncountry, we need to develop holistic education programmes that would best serve\nnot just oneself but also society at large.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His inspirational and moving dialogue generated a rousing\nresponse from the audience, an ovation that lasted several minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Amit Jain, President, Uber India, who is an alumnus of\nDPS, RK Puram was also present on the occasion. Mr Jain spoke at length on the\nlearning he imbibed during his time at the school and how the experiences had\nhelped sculpt him as an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He credited his alma mater and Dr. Saini, whom he fondly\ncalled as, \u2018guru\u2019, as the instrumental factors that had helped him chase his\ndreams and succeed in life as an individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme also highlighted various achievements of the\nstudents through a video presentation, which ranged from golf, poetry, dance,\nastrophysics and chess.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
