Jindal Global University, Sonipat is\nhosting the 4<sup>th<\/sup> International Conference on Victimology on 30<sup>th<\/sup>\nand 31st October, 2015, based on the theme of Professionalism in Victim\nAssistance Programmes: Role of Social Workers, Psychologists, Judiciary,\nGovernment and NGOs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Sanjeev Sahni,\nPrincipal Director of JIBS and Director of CVPS while speaking on the objective\nof the conference said that \u201cthe aim of the conference is to create awareness\namongst academicians, professionals, psychiatrists, students and general public\nregarding the importance of victim\u2019s rights and the urgent need for exploration\nof the existing supportive policies and measures to protect and rehabilitate\nvictims.\u201d He further highlighted that the \u201cconference could be a breeding\nground to&nbsp; generate insights&nbsp; and initiate research studies&nbsp;\nthat examined the&nbsp; precursors, vulnerabilities, events, impacts,\nrecoveries and responses by people, organizations and cultures related to\nvictimization.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of international\nand national speakers will address the conference. Prof. Emilio Viano,\nPresident of International Society for Criminology and Prof. Marc Groenhuijsen,\nPresident of World Society of Victimology, will be delivering keynote addresses\nat the conference. Both are pioneers in the field of victimology studies and\nhave been recognized internationally for their contributions to justice and\nhuman rights. As an expert in trans-national crime, Prof. Viano also lectures\nat the Department of Justice, Law and Society at American University and Prof\nGroenhuijsen has been a part of the law faculty at University of Leiden and\nTilburg University and is the founding director of INTERVICT (International\nVictimology Institute, Tilburg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Gerd Ferdinand\nKirchhoff from Tokiwa International Victimology Institute, Japan will be\ntalking about Victimology \u2013 a Theory with Consequence. Prof. Adam Dubin from\nUniversity of Pontifica Comillas, Spain will highlight the challenges faced in\nproviding effective legal aid for Africa\u2019s marginalized citizens. Dr. Hema\nHargovan from University of KwaZulu- Natal, South Africa will throw some light\non professionalising child protection in emergencies based on her research with\nsex workers in Kampala, Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other distinguished\nnational speakers at the conference will include; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. M. Priyamvadha,\nPresident of Indian Society of Victimology &#8211; Devadasi system and stakeholders\nresponse on practice of killing elderly people in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Beulah Shekhar, Manomaniam\nSundaranar University, India &#8211; Towards a victim justice system \u2013 A new vision\nof Justice for crime victims in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M. Uma Maheswari,\nUniversity of Madras &#8211; Government &amp; Victims: Protectors and Oppressors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Dinesh Chhabra,\nUniversity of Delhi &#8211; Psychology of Eyewitness testimony: Implications for fair\ntrial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Deepika Gupta, Punjab\nUniversity &#8211; Role of United Nations as a guardian of women rights<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Punjab\nUniversity &#8211; Interventions by social workers for solving the problem of women <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to organizing\ninternational conferences, various workshops and seminars, CVPS is actively\ninvolved in multidisciplinary and collaborative research projects. These\nprograms seek to provide legal, psychological, educational, medical and\nrehabilitative assistance and support for various types of victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences\nprovides round the clock counselling assistance to individuals in distress, the\ninstitute has set a dedicated helpline and a toll free number has been\ngenerated for this purpose. The service is available for school children,\nparents, teachers and guardians of children in distress. The service provides\nfor psychological, sociological, educational and legal assistance with the objective\nof not only providing assistance, but also ensuring holistic development. The\nhelpline is operated by competent professionals who are qualified to manage\ncrisis by offering a compassionate and non-judgmental platform. It seeks to\nprovide confidential support services by keeping caller\u2019s identity anonymous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JIBS also conducts free short-term courses for students and\nteachers, these programs are operated with an objective to equip individuals to\nmanage their challenges effectively. The program course modules are highly\ninteractive and allow participants to familiarize themselves with modern\nconcepts and also brush their existing skills.
